Did anyone at the time feel like the Patriots botched the Jimmy G trade?

Hindsight is clearly 20/20, but I, myself, even felt like the Patriots could have gotten a lot more for a starting caliber QB. (They got a 2nd round pick for those unaware). I know that’s fair considering he wasnt completely proven on a full year standard, but the dude was clearly a future starter.
I’m even saying this pretending that I never knew about Jimmy G’s fantastic end to the season. Everyone knew he had it. Could the Patriots have gotten a lot more out of this trade?

What they botched was not keeping him and cutting Brady loose like Bill wanted, Kraft got sentimental.

I agree. Bill has always subscribed to the “let them go a year early rather than a year too late” theory and I think Kraft got in his way with Brady. Now they’ve got a 40+ year old QB (albeit an elite one) but no replacement in line.
Pats were in a great position post Brady/Belichick with both Jimmy GQ and McDaniels waiting to take the reigns. Not so much now

Yup The end of the Pats dynasty. Crazy that it could have kept going.

Not what bill wanted.
And if this had happened this board would have a field day as Brady goes on to play at an MVP level and the pats cut him for a guy with 7 starts.

If they truly wanted to trade him then They could have ransomed the Browns during the 2017 Draft. The Browns were ready to deal for him , and if I remember correctly it was for multiple first and second round picks and the Pats held off.
But I don't believe they wanted to. Bill made that decision and only required a second round pick. That shite blows my mind. Someone pissed Bill off because he knew how valuable Jimmy G was. He also trades Brissett for a fricking nobody

False report. Most browns ever offered was a 2nd and a 3rd

No the average Patriots fanboy screamed in victory because they got a second round pick four years after using a second round pick on Jimmy G.

That’s pretty good value for a guy who barely played during those 4 years

Everybody knew it was a bad idea because Bill was grooming him and he would have been a hit in a system he knew inside-out.
What nobody could have predicted was that it would take him 2 weeks to learn a new system with inferior talent and play at a Pro Bowl level. If you thought he would be that good that fast, you were definitely in the minority.

The 30 for 30 on this will be damn good.

Kind of like the saints and Brees.
Probably should have gone after cousins or garrapolo, or at least draft and prepare like Aaron Rodgers.

In reality - Brady should have been benched this year in favor of Jimmy GOAT.
I really think the Patriots would be SB champs right now had Brady been riding the pine. Jimmy G would have shredded that “Defense” for 600+ yards and 5 touchdowns.

Said at the time they didn't get enough. People were going so far as to claim they didn't trade him to Cleveland to not upset him and he'd re-sign with the Pats in a couple years.

That was the funniest thing. People on here stating that Jimmy would be a FA after this past season and would just sign with the Patriots again...

A few behind the scenes things people don't think about:
1) BB wanted to get him out of the AFC
2) BB also wanted to send him someplace where he would have a chance to be successful with a solid offensive coaching staff. Kyle sought out BB during the combine to talk about how he could improve as a coach after 28-3 & apparently they hit it off.
3) Mike Shannahan testified on behalf of Bill in spygate so sending his kid Jimmy G was a bit of a thank you

I mean it just seems weird that he’s been there for so long and all of a sudden they let him go fo a second.

waited to see if Brady fell off + Kraft interjected. Prob could have gotten more than a 2 but not the haul the Browns might have given in the previous offseason + 3 factors i mentioned above.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
And not because of what they got for him. But because they got rid of him.
