Truth is, Kelly and Thurman Thomas were easy 1st ballot HOF on a historic team, Reed was at best the 4th best player on the team.
Erm, and the other three are in the HOF.
Derp.

The NFL hall of fame has become a joke anyway.

And before anyone says Raider homer, I'm not sure Brown is 100% worthy. He's certainly more worthy than Andre freakin' Reed.
While I disagree with the OP's premise, I do agree that Brown > Reed. I hate the Raiders, and I think Tim Brown should be in the HOF.
Honestly, the Hall has made dumber decisions than Andre Reed. Joe Namath is in no way a Hall of Famer in terms of his resume (then or now), and even media people will admit he got in because of how he popularized the NFL/AFL and because he was essentially the "face" of the NFL about Super Bowl III.
I'm a Packers fan, and even I will admit that Paul Hornung probably shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

Well, to be fair, when you say he wasn't one of the top 3 receivers of his time, Jerry Rice was one of them so it is more fair to say he wasn't one of the top 2 not named "Rice". Nobody else in history is bumping Rice either.

Marques Colston has a Super Bowl and twice the amount of 1000 yard seasons and has never been to a probowl. I've never seen him as a HOF candidate but he's gonna have to be considered with that joker in.

i dont think you understand the difference in passing yardage over the last 25 years.
jim kelly for his career averaged like 220 yards a game. drew brees has averaged 275. kelly, in that prolific offense, only broke 3500 once (career high 3844). that career high would have placed him 12 last season between flacco and romo.
while i have the rankings up - kellys career yards per game wouldve been essentially even with 2013 stats from case keenum, nick foles, alex smith, and ryan fitzpatricks ypg for the season

does anyone really care about the football HOF?

another thing to consider with reed is that he played in the elements in buffalo.

One of the more charmed lives in sports history.
The "Golden Boy" came along in history at the perfect time...just before wide-scale integration...a good white athlete...but not a great athlete...who also, never should have won the Heisman on a 2-8 team...but hey, he played for Notre Dame! (Jim Brown finished 5th in the voting btw)

Now...it's the WR. And will be a problem in 10 years with all these pass-happy-rules, basketball-on-grass receivers start being eligible.
How do you sort through that mess? Steroid-era baseball numbers in football because of the legislating out physicality.
This guy gets it.

Did Andre Reed deserve to be in the HOF?
It's a numbers game - he was first up for nomination in 2006. Room needed to be cleared in the WR logjam (Rice, Irvin, Carter, Tim Brown etc).
This year's class was the right fit for Reed and the nomination carried.

No. Just 4 seasons.
How many of you were over the age of 10 while watching the Bills during the Kelly / Thurmanator / Reed / Talley / Smith / My favorite martian Kelso years?

Unless you were crazy dominant (Bambi) or continued in the 70's long after the merger as great player...
The Hall traditionally treats AFL stars like rejects. Still biased and prejudiced after all these years - All-AFL means nothing to them.
The Hall sucks...and the ring-leader Peter King is the worst.
Thank god, Ray Guy finally got in by side-stepping those clowns.
Robinson should be in. AFL wasn't so second-class as was proven. NFL old boys still won't acknowledge it.
When asked who he believes has been most snubbed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, hall of fame member Lance Alworth told me, “Johnny Robinson of the Chiefs. He was the best defensive back I ever played against. He’s my man.”

My cut off on HOF is at least 3-4 all pro seasons. Not pro bowl, all pro.
With that said, sterling sharpe should be in.
6 years, 5 first team all pro.

He won the MVP without making the pro bowl in 61?
