Ex-Browns QB Derek Anderson: Cleveland 'fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner'

11:24 PM

Former Browns QB Derek Anderson excoriated the fans of the city of Cleveland on Tuesday, the same day the team released him.

In an e-mail to the News-Herald of northern Ohio, Anderson said:

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.

"I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."

Anderson was cut after four years in Cleveland that included a Pro Bowl appearance in 2007. But his final two seasons there were lackluster, and included Cleveland fans cheering when Anderson suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 30, 2008.

Coach Eric Mangini offered warmed words for Anderson in a statement on Monday. But Anderson, who said he didn't expect the Browns to bring him back, said the team did not speak with him:

"I never heard from anyone until today," Anderson told the News-Herald. "Nobody ever tried to reach out to me, which is fine."

Don't think he'll be getting an offer anywhere close to the $7M he was gonna get for this year

Browns fans are only topped by Eagles fans in terms of just being completely miserable people

I just find the Delhomme and now DA situations funny. Organizations shell out the $$ for these QBs and then cut them.

Don't think DA has any more guaranteed like Jake

No one has been mentioned since the news broke.

I'll toss out Panthers, Rams, or Arizona as my prediction

They live in Ohio, which on the "miserable cities of the U.S. list absolutely dominates.
