Deontay Wilder’s former trainer says Wilder’s career is over after losing to Fury

Former world champion and 1984 Olympics gold medalist Mark Breland has come out swinging against his former understudy Deontay Wilder.

Breland was Wilder’s career-long co-trainer along with Jay Deas, but after the former WBC champion dropped his first career defeat to the hands of Tyson Fury last February, the “Bronze Bomber” decided to contentiously split from Breland, billing his coach, among other things, as disloyal for throwing in the towel as the Brit was bullying him the entire night with a vicious barrage.

“[Wilder’s] career is over now, I’m done, and he’s done. I’m done with him. Wilder only has his power, and we’ll see how far that takes him. That’s all I’m going to say. I wish him well and that’s it,” Breland told The Fight Is Right.

Following the loss, Wilder offered several reasons as to why he succumbed to Fury, including that his elaborate costume was too heavy and drained his legs before the fight even started.

Breland said he’s not buying Wilder’s list of excuses.

“Some people can’t take a loss, if you lose, you lose. Don’t blame everybody, go back and think about yourself,” said Breland. “Come on now, only foolish people come out with stuff like that because it’s crazy.

Breland also gave the boxing world a behind the scenes look into Wilder’s tendencies and preparation habits in the gym.

“He don’t jump rope, he don’t hit the speed bag and he don’t hit the heavy bag,” said Breland, adding that Wilder doesn’t have a jab either.

“To fight a guy like him, I would out-jab him. I don’t think he’d be able to touch me. I’d put him to sleep, the jab can bang that chin and put you down.

"If I boxed the guys he boxed, I'd beat them. That's the bottom line. You say he had some 'good wins'? A good win. Just that [Luis Ortiz] fight, that was it."

For a championship-level boxer, this is crazy.

He has silly power but never learned how to box. Fury took years off to be a gypsy and dominated 10 rounds the 1st time they fought.

These things have been obvious his entire career. What has made him so unique and compelling is that for whatever reason, there's death on the end of his right hand. He's in his mid 30s now and has shown absolutely no evolution to his game. He hasn't developed because he's shown no desire or motivation to do so and his crew (including Breland) have been just along for the ride and getting paid. The wins against possibly 50 year old Ortiz were his most impressive by far but even 50 year old Ortiz totally outboxed him in both fights before getting caught by that right hand.

This bit is shocking if true.

Embarrassing himself each time he opens his mouth to make excuses.

This is coming from a Wilder fan.

You got your arse beat shut up and get better or just fade away into obscurity.

Probably can't fight until the mess with the Fury rematch clause gets figured out.

Was legit the worst excuse I’ve seen in recent times for losing.

Sounds like he’s a little salty to me, your his trainer for all those years but yet u never train him cuz he can’t jab and he doesn’t hit the bags. All this comes out after he lost and you got fired.

Well yea dude has gone off the deep end as well

His cash cow fights are basically done

Fury has no need to fight him, AJ has no reason to fight him.

Maybe he gets lucky and gets one last big fight vs Ruiz

I thought there was a contract for one more Tyson-Fury? Not that it would be worth watching because Fury would destroy him.

Then what where you there for Breeland? I cant imagine this happening with true great trainers like Eddie Futch, Cus, Manny Steward, etc..... His trainer is supposed to help him improve his skills/ jab & make him put in the work in the gym.

If I am a promising young fighter why would need Breeland training me?
