Sorry I missed the presser and I'm late back to the thread, but did the AD say exactly how long Te'o was supposedly being extorted by gamblers before he reported it? Because I don't think the NCAA would want to hear that he didn't 'report' that.
It really sounds like ND is absolutely flailing, saying anything they can just to keep words coming, and not paying attention to the fact that if any one thing they say is actually true, it proves conclusively that something else they said must logically have been a deliberate lie.
Regardless of the extent of Te'o's involvement, ND as an institution is really sounding very very bad in what I've seen reported as coming from them today.

The ad's "official story" sounded like he was making it up off the top of his head.

I don't think he was being extorted
But Notre Dame used this as an excuse to not report this information until now. Said they weren't sure if he was being extorted or blackmailed or anything like that
Who knows. It's one big clusterfrick that is going to crash and burn a la Penn State

He didn't. Reporters followed up with questions about why they didn't go to the cops if they thought these illegal activities were happening, and he was just like "well, we had discussions about it".
Flailing is absolutely what they are doing. Why they even held a PC I have no idea.
