This is mostly on the media's perception of Notre Dame.
In their eyes, ND is larger than life as a football program and Te'o took advantage of it for his own publicity. He doesn't get the same kind of recognition at a smaller school.

If Manti was catfished then there had to be some girl who helped his buddy by staying on the phone all night with Manti, night after night. Not buying that for a second. And who played the part of her family on the phone? Manti was obviously in on it.
