Regardless of what happened, it's not like we're ever going to find out. ND & Te'o will make statements saying that he was catfished and that will be the end of it.

Manti and Tuiasosopo had met before hadn't they?

Maybe Manti and Tuiasosopo were partners?

If Manti was catfished then there had to be some girl who helped his buddy by staying on the phone all night with Manti, night after night

that's not really how this works

also, they'd have to have an entire network of people, phone numbers, etc devoted to this scheme to be her "family"

Teo is 100% in on it, probably was the one who had the idea. People need to stop trying to act like he got hoaxed. He didnt. He is behind it

He's still stupid even if he's in on the lie.

Deadspin was first tipped off by a Bama fan, who came up empty while looking to poison flowers at Kekua's grave.

either te'o is the dumbest person in college football (which is an achievement) or he is lying

This is beyond either of those. My god.

I just reread this article again, and I'm in even more disbelief than I was before.

How the frick. I mean damn. How do people formulate plans like this?

Here is one of my favorites, from the Chicago Tribune:

quote:

At moments, it was agonizing. The funeral for his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, who died of leukemia, took place in California the day of the Michigan game. Te'o knew when they would close the casket, and during the Irish's walk-through, he asked defensive coordinator Bob Diaco for the time. It was 12:01 p.m. Eastern, 9:01 a.m. Pacific. One minute after Kekua's coffin closed. "She said, 'Babe, if anything happens to me, promise that you'll still stay over there and that you'll play and that you'll honor me through the way you play,' " Te'o said. "All she wanted was some white roses. That's all she asked for. So I sent her roses, and sent her two picks along with that."

It's worse if he's in on it, which he clearly is.

and? People's voices sound different over the phone.

look, I'm not saying that T'eo didn't do anything malicious. I don't know that.

I'm saying it's premature to completely rule out stupidity. The hoax angle still makes a lot of sense at this point.

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. "To realize that Iwas the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. "It further pains me that the grief Ifelt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life. "I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been. "In retrospect, Iobviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. "Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFLDraft."

It's hilarious how obviously fabricated that sounds with the knowledge that we have now.
