Exactly. Once he found out about it, he could have just declined to speak about it. And once Notre Dame found out about it, they could have asked him not to comment about it. BOTH let this go on.

I believe someone on here quoted an article where he made reference to her on January 3 of this year.
He also found out she was fake on December 6 and mentioned his girlfriend died of cancer two days later.

Here's the problem with that theory: if you are to believe that he had nothing to do with this hoax then you have to take his word for it that he didn't know she was fake until December 6. From September 12 onward there were stories about them meeting at the Stanford-ND game in 2009, about her coming to visit in Hawaii, etc. all throughout the national media. Don't you think, if she were a real person and she had a real family, that he would have toned down what he said out of respect for the family?

This is what gets me. If there's a girl out there that talked to Manti every night for four months and went to sleep with him still on the line -- she is remarkably committed to the prank. At that point, you aren't faking, you ARE his girlfriend. That's about a thousand hours of phone time. You ever spent a thousand hours on a prank? Do you know anyone who has?
