RIP Stern. You made the game what it is today.

But I still can’t forgive you for nixing the CP3/Lakers trade

Damn

The way stern fought to keep basketball in New Orleans was remarkable. You can only feel that almost 10yrs later, he prob regrets that. The biggest advancement being a practice facility in Metairie.

It a renaissance ever does come, it will be disappointing he won’t be there to see it

Like or dislike Stern you have to admire the way he allowed Michael Jordan to self punish himself with a 2 year leave from the NBA for gambling.

Mj was the main draw to the NBA at the time and it allowed Stern and the NBA not to be the bad guy in punishing Jordan.

Untrue. NBA finals stopped tape delays years before Stern took the job in 1984.

In fact playoff games were still tape delayed under Stern in the late 1980's. Cable TV had as much to do with this.

No argument from me, PR and Paul tagliabue were the last great NFL commissioners before it became the pussified fast paced, heavy handed officiating mess, it currently is now.

RIP. He was a damn good commish.

Can't disagree...

But he followed the earlier a-hole Lawrence O'Brien- the same commissioner who succeeded in destroying the New Orleans Jazz. After the Jazz signed Gail Goodrich in free agency, made the Jazz give up 3 #1 picks!! The first of which was Magic Johnson...you can guess what happened after that...

Under Pete Rozelle's watch:

-Oversaw the NFL/ AFL merger.

-Created the Super Bowl ( a defacto National Holiday)

-Negotiated TV contract /Created the iconic Monday Night Football

-Negotiated collective TV contracts which other Leagues emulated.

- Oversaw the NFl surpass Baseball as America's most popular League

Damn RIP

I despised him for basketball reasons, but he was one of the best things to happen to the NBA.

You despised him for making the right call and doing the responsible thing for the franchise he controlled?

I’ll never understand the hate for this.

Stern was so damn good, that he got the NHL to hire one of his errand boys in law department as their GM, believing they got Stern II.

Stern asking Jim Rome if he beat his wife

I remember hearing that live. It was unreal. Bout the only time that Rome has been caught off guard and speechless except for Chris Everett of course.
