Congrats on the ALCS win. Now go beat the Dodgers.

What does the DAT see as our biggest challenge against the LAD?

The offense, the pitching, and their defense.

Dodgers are a great team with no obvious weaknesses. We will need to play our best ball. They will throw 3 LH pitchers. Also the best closer in baseball IMO in Jansen.
They are playing dominant ball right now. You have to have guys like Gonzales and Reddick and springer start to have better at bats.

Their bullpen has been really good but I think the bridge between their starters and Jansen can be hit if we are rolling again offensively. The problem is their rotation is better than NY (obviously) and Jansen is better than Chapman.
We need two good long top notch starts from Keuchel and Verlander in LA and we need to win one of them. I have a lot more confidence in Morton and our number 4 starter now though after Game 7. And this lineup is familiar with Darvish and hit him pretty well in one of his two starts.
Stros in 6 IMO

They are rolling right now but are human. Let's not forget they went on an 11-game losing streak last month and lost 22 of their last 34.

It's Monday and I still can't believe it. I still keep going back and watching replays. I keep reading articles. The 162 game season makes it so much more of an investment as a fan. It's a truly special and unique game.
On a second note. Opening day payrolls
Number 1 Dodgers at $242 million
2 Yankees 201 million
3 Red Sox $199 million
18 Astros $124 million
If we pull this off does this mean that our very own Geoff ludlow is the best executive in sports? I mean it's been brought up some but the entire story of this organization since 2011 should be one of the biggest stories in sports. Movie type stuff. It's moneyball except they actually won something.
Of note I don't resent teams purely because of pay rolls. I'll be begging crane to open up the check book over the next couple years.

I don't know about you, but I have been prone to spontaneous fits of uncontrollable tears since the 9th inning Sat night, yesterday, and even this morning.

We spend more than the moneyball teams did. And just like why the early 2000s A's were good we drafted and developed well. Analytics play a huge part in doing that effectively but that is still number one. The Dodgers have done it very well too, three of their four best players are all homegrown and Turner was picked off the scrap heap
And yes, Luhnow is very good at his job

True but to go from complete futility to facing the 3 top payrolls in the game with a bottom half payroll and winning at least 2/3 and an AL championship based on impeccable drafting and free agent mining all over the course of 6 years is pretty phenomenal.

Did you guys see the interview with Crane after game 7? He was asked if he has one of the best, if not, the best gm in baseball.
He never acknowledged the question. The closest that he came was when he said that " luhnow is very good, but we'll wait until after the WS to decide." He did say that he makes " good decisions ".
I personally felt he went out of his way to not give luhnow compliments.
Seemed weird to me.
Sorry, been trying to find a link and unsuccessful.

Oh no doubt, I'm not trying to downplay it at all. Our front office is excellent and I don't think anyone who follows MLB closely would disagree. Oakland didn't have the ability to absorb contracts like Verlander McCann though and I think that played a big part in them never getting over the hump

I've been wondering if we were going to promote Luhnow to "president of baseball operations" or whatever and put a GM under him, probably Mike Elias. That's the model a lot teams use now. That's interesting though

I noticed that too but didn't read as much into it. But I definitely see your point. Maybe it was my excitement (and my beer buzz) that I didn't put that together. Interesting, but you would think it has to be a 'non-baseball' issue with Luhnow (personality clash?) unless he made a move without Crane's permission. I don't see how you could criticize him otherwise right now.
ETA- maybe Luhnow sold the price of Verlander as a guarantee to win the WS and Crane is holding it over his head?
It's obvious that we don't win that series without him though, so his cost at least got us to the WS.
