It's not that big of a hole bc we could then have a lineup of bregman/altuve/Beltran/correa/gurriel/gattis/McCann/reddick/ aoki or marisnick

when you consider no pitcher is an automatic win ever, and realize that better pitchers give you a better shot of winning, then the post I responded to was pretty much saying exactly that.

There is a huge difference between Springer and Marisnck. Aoki is not an everyday player.
So, yes, it is a big hole. It keeps us at last year's offense. I don't think that is good enough.

At this point if the cost to bring in a TOR guy is either Bregman or Springer leave I would rather go into the season as the rotation is currently constructed. Allow prospects we have in the minors to make more waves hopefully (Martes, Tucker, etc) to increase value and flip them at the deadline for rotation help.
Edit: Plus how many times are "trades" ever really as huge as fans speculate prior to being executed? I believe a lot of over/undervaluing prospects goes into each fanbase/media. Granted Sale & Archer are unique in terms of control, just stating that it might not take the glut of riches to strike a deal that is currently being portrayed.

That's my preference also -- IF they can't get EE to sign. If they can get EE in the everyday lineup, I'm all for trading Springer to bring in a legit Ace.
I like the look of the 1-9 lineup right now, to take Springer out severely changes roles/responsibilities from an offensive prospective. Replace him with EE and I like the lineup even more.
Push Keuchel and McCullers down in the rotation and the Astros become one of the strongest teams on paper. Even then, we still have to worry about Tony Sipp.

I think you're fine with Aoki playing against every RHP right now with the lineup we have, but if you give up Springer I agree. Him and especially Jake become a black hole at the bottom of the order
Posted on 12/5/16 at 3:55 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
At this point, does Jake even have a spot on the MLB club?
Posted on 12/5/16 at 3:57 pm to Floating Change Up
Maybe as springers clubhouse flunkie.
Posted on 12/5/16 at 3:58 pm to Floating Change Up
I don't think so
You have George, Reddick, Aoki Teoscar and Beltran that can play OF. Unless they determine Beltran really won't be playing the field and want to carry another OF because of that. But I don't think Jake should be getting a roster spot over Teoscar

WTF?!?!?! It keeps us at last years offense????
At a minimum we've replaced Jason Castro, carlos gomez,Colby Rasmus, and Aj Reed/Tyler White with
Brian McCann, Josh Reddick,Carlos Beltran, And Gurriel
If you think we have the same dogshite lineup as we ran out last year littered with near .200 avg kings, then you're dumber than Im giving you credit for.
We've improved the lineup drastically and have 8 good bats in the everyday lineup if we lose springer and replace him with a gold glove center fielder in marisnick its ok to get an Ace like sale. I dont know how long you've been an astros fan, but I can tell you this is the best collection of bats we've had since probably 2001. Hell our 2005 world series team had shite bats like last year everyday as well in taveras, lane, burke, ausmus, everett, and a pitcher and we survived all the way to the series bc of our 3 headed monster in the rotation.
Please stop if you think we're gonna have a drastic dropoff if we lose a .260 hitter with 200 strikeouts and replace him with a top 5 starting pitcher. Good lord.
1. castro hit .210 with 11-32
- mccann hit .242 with 20-68
2. Carlos Gomez hit .210 with 5-29
-Carlos Beltran hit .295 with 29-93
3. Colby Rasmus hit .206 with 15-54
- josh reddick hit .281 with 10-37
4. Aj Reed/Tyler white hit .216 and .164 respectively
- gurriel is what many cubans say is the greatest hitter to come out of cuba, surely he sucks
we basically got 4 guys who hit .200 out of our lineup, and yet you're whining that sadly we barely improved?
Compare
Bregman
Altuve
Beltran
Correa
Gurriel
Mccann
Gattis
Reddick
Marisnick
to
Taveras
Biggio
Bagwell
Ensberg
Lane
Ausmus
Everett
Burke
Pitcher
And tell me the lineup we have cant go to the world series with Sale/Keuchel/Mccullers big 3 assuming all are healthy????
and before you get your panties in a wad about minor leagues and their stats, they dont always pan out. did you know the great Jason Lane once hit .316 with 38 homers and 124 rbi's in the minors? How did his major league career go? So dont get hung up on prospects, they dont always make it. Sale has already made it and he's got 10+ years left of domination in him.

Well batting average really is the most important stat..

lol when you're talking about losing 1 mediocre bat in your lineup like springer and replacing it with an ace, then what matters. OBP matter?
.307 - castro
.286 - rasmus
.272 - gomez
.286 - tyler white
.335 - mccann
.337 - beltran
.345 - reddick
.292 - gurriel
so it looks like all 4 bats we've replaced get on base at a higher clip too. Did you know Aoki has a similar OBP as george springer as well?
You're probably the only guy outside of houston who would rather a mediocre 25-90 outfielder over a bonafide ace, and being the homer you are, you're defending the thesis to the death, incredible. You probably wouldn't trade george springer for kershaw if the opportunity arose.

well you're certainly doing nothing but making stupid remarks on why you want to keep a mediocre outfielder of which plenty exist vs trading him for an ace which every team would kill for. I dont see teams lining up to trade the farm for .260 hitters with 180 strikeouts, but you apparently think giving the white sox george for sale is us getting ripped off
i dont know you, but you strike me as the kinda fan who was gonna bitch either way and then say I told you so no matter what the outcome of the 2017 was.

George is a top 10-15 outfielder, how many starters would you rather have over sale? Is it harder to find a dominant ace or a .260 hitting outfielder?
