Im pretty sure your opinion is fair.

I know how to get you to melt. There's only one keyword that has to be said. Other than that, I don't think you've really said much that's completely insane ala Ryno.

Yes! A unified DAT Party!

I hope Yuli works out, but it's not like he was grossly overpaid if he can be a decent contributor. Let's say he helps up get someone like Cespedes after an unlikely Miggy trade. Let's wait and see.

I would be very torn about McCan. Would be an upgrade for our lineup and would mean we aren't resigning Castro...both great things. So I love it from a baseball perspective

But man I've hated that guy for years. Easily the biggest douche in MLB. I guess it would turn into one of those "hate him if he's not on your team and love him if he is" type players.

Would also be interesting to see his personality clash with Hinch McCann would probably start a massive brawl and Hinch would be sprinting over to the other dugout apologizing

I agree with you. He's a good fit from a baseball perspective but I've never liked him. He would also come pretty cheap in a trade, esspecially if we're willing to take on the rest of the deal

The return for miggy or McCann would be interesting. I would assume the package starts with one of the top arms and Tucker for miggy and one of those guys + 1 or 2 mid level prospects for mccannn

There is absolutely no way in hell this is what McCann would cost. The Yankees tried to get rid of him during the waiver period last year and couldn't get anyone to bite, even the Dodgers who have taken on plenty of bad contracts in the past and needed catching help.

McCann was pretty damn bad in the second half of last year: .236/.321/.351 and only 6 HR. And that's largely against RHP which is his strength (he usually sits vs LHP). Astros do need a catcher who can hit RHP, but I'd be skeptical about this one. Not saying I wouldn't do it if the price was right, I just hope they wouldn't overpay based on the name & performance of a couple of years ago even though I am sure that's what the Yanks are asking for. I am worried that the decline is real.

We need a Lefty bat so McCann would be a good fit. Just have to hope he hits. How much worse could he be at the plate than Castro....

All in for Encarnacion if we're getting a bat.

The Astros have serious interest in free agent outfielder/DH Carlos Beltran, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. The Rangers still have Beltran on their radar, too, per that report. And the Red Sox remain intrigued by Beltran, but view him as one of many possible candidates, per Rob Bradford of WEEI.com (via Twitter). Boston is still casting a “wide net” in seeking a new DH. All told, it seems that the 39-year-old will have multiple options as he chases an elusive World Series title in what will be his 20th major league season.

JL downplayed the Cabrera stuff in an interview with Kaplan. Said he was asked by someone about trading for a hall of fame caliber first baseman. JL said they're looking at everything and the media ran with that.

I think the Edwin interest could be legit but I think the only "big" trades that would be made are for pitching and I guess maybe McCann

Mlb.com article today "5 Teams Likely To Bring Hot Stove Drama"

quote:

Houston Astros The Astros are the inverse of the Tigers. For years, their payroll has been lower than their market size suggested it could be. Now the Astros are prepared to move it northward, from below $100 million in 2016 to the range of $140 million -- if not right away, then gradually over the next few seasons. Cabrera would be the biggest splash, of course, but other viable options exist on the free-agent market, including Encarnacion, Ian Desmond and former Astros outfielder Carlos Beltran. (The New York Daily News has reported the Astros are pursuing Beltran.) Houston also has shown interest in acquiring catcher/designated hitter Brian McCann from the Yankees. One way or another, the Astros are certain to add an impact bat.

The need to acquire another proven starting pitcher exists, as well: Dallas Keuchel's ERA increased by more than two runs after winning the 2015 AL Cy Young Award, and Collin McHugh was Houston's only starter to surpass 170 innings last season.

Again, nothing we haven't really heard already, but more reports that we are going to be active = happier DAT

Also found that pretty interesting. Would mean sometime in the next month. He also said Boston is not being nearly as aggressive for EE as most anticipated
