The fact that the Astros got two mostly healthy impactful seasons out of Morton is incredible, given his history.

I certainly wouldn't have bet on him staying healthy for two more.

I like the Miley signing, very under the radar a lot like Morton was in 2017. And the Astros still have a lot of young arms that could break the rotation. Josh James, Framber Valdez, Rogelio Armenteros, Cionel Perez, Corbin Martin, Whitley will be up in 2019 at some point, and maybe Bukauskas as well although I wouldn't bet on it.

And still, what's more important than that is keeping the core position guys healthy.

Yeah guess that means they ain't gonna pay for Keuchel after all. You guys think it's safe to say our rotation looks like this now?

Verlander
Cole
McHugh
Miley
James

I think the first 4 are set.

I would bet on James for the 5th spot as of now, but I could also see them wanting to keep him in the bullpen and trying out Valdez or Perez.

Miley looks like a good ol’ baw, might just be the missing piece. Stay tuned.

My next question I would ask is when do you guys see Whitley coming up? I always kind of thought it would be September when we see him, maybe August, but when I was listening on a radio station, they said he could be up in June. Is this a possibility?

Absolutely. I think the only way he’s not up in June is if he’s hurt or the guys we have up are performing and healthy

He will probably start in AA but I think they’ll bump him to AAA pretty quick if everything goes according to plan

Depends on how many innings he actually logged last year. Most young pitchers get their innings totals increased by 10-15% every year

Well he didn’t throw much last year at all because of the suspension. He threw 92 in 2017.

Well they say he threw down on the complex during the suspension. So who knows how much he actually threw. Plus the AFL

All that to say, I can’t imagine he throws more than 130 or so this year

Yeah I think they will space things out with him to manage his innings and get creative with the DL and options similar to what the Dodgers did with Buehler last year. They will figure out a way to make sure he’s able to start in October though I think assuming he stays healthy while limiting the work load

Yeah even though I'd like to see the kid as early as possible, we're definitely gonna need him for the playoffs.

Well let’s not act like super2 has nothing to do with it.

I mean Whitley was hurt a large portion of last year and pitched 52 innings last year (most of them in the AZFL). I think we all believe in the talent but its definitely not unreasonable to start the kid at the minor league level and super 2 have nothing to do with it.

As for the Miley signing
Fangraphs article on him/signing
Pretty much echos the DATs thoughts. An encouraging thing to me is that he just started using a cutter (at high rates) last year so a drastic change in pitch selection may keep leading to better results

Tyler White is looking more like the DH for the beer league Astros.

Well he’s kinda like Sampson instead of his hair it’s his weight. I expect him to hit 74 bombs now

Now that football is over, we're quickly approaching Julia Morales season. Someone alert Ashby.
