Wagner is tracking well for the HoF. Got about 10 more days till announcement
I'm all for it
I remember when I heard the stat for the game he pitched in Div 3 or whatever small school he was at for the first time, where he struck out 23 batters in a 7 inning game, and thought it was a misprint.
I think it was the first time I realized that you could get more than 3 Ks in an inning.

I wonder if we will retire his number if he gets in. I’d support it personally

Known idiot Jon Heyman once again didn't vote for Wagner because he didn't have post season success. Because 11.2 innings of rough post season outings apparently undo 900+ innings of dominance over 16 years. So on the flip side if he was great in the post season, ohhh those 11 innings are the ticket in. Those 11 innings are the difference maker there.
Dumbass.
Dumbass.

Our friend Keith Law left him off as well. More from Keith:
Baseball writers
quote:
CC Sabathia is the other new candidate for whom I voted, and he just squeaks over the line for me; his performance is quite comparable to that of Andy Pettitte, for whom I have never voted, but Sabathia’s reputation around the game as a clubhouse leader and the way he has used his voice and stature after his playing career to speak out about racial inequities in the game are separating factors for me.

Baseball writers are the worst.

This should immediately get his voting priveleges revoked.
HoF votes are supposed to be based on players days as a player. Full stop.

Yeah, and the way he put his personal priorities like alcoholism first, above his one game playoff to make the playoffs vs the Astros.
Just sets him apart.
Really sets him apart.

We're all dumber for having read this.
I'm going main board with this one. I'm always up for communal baseball writers bashing.

I certainly don't have any ill will towards the guy but this isn't looking great for his $200M dream deal. It seems like he's down to two suitors: the Tigers and the Red Sox. The Tigers aren't going to give him $200M and the Red Sox know this.

He would thrive in Fenway. He's always hit well there but I think he'd be a doubles machine. Dude could bang doubles off the monster endlessly. That left center cut out at MMP has never done him any favors where LF can pinch that gap setting up at the corner of the boxes.

I think he ends up in Detroit on a 1+1 type of deal, similar AAV to Correa's first contract with the Twins.

The Astros signed Alvarez for $2 million Wednesday, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports.
A 6-foot-4, 185-pound outfielder from Cuba, Alvarez bats left-handed and is currently hit-over-power, having just recently shot up to his current height. However, the belief is that he has massive power potential as he adds muscle to his frame. He isn't a burner, although he plays a fine center field, so his bat will have to carry the day as far as his dynasty value is concerned.

Yeah, like the article references, that swing is very Paul O'Neill.

He’s going to end up signing a similar deal to what we offered with Detroit or Toronto and be left regretting it

Take a fair market deal and become a franchise icon for your entire career

On the other hand I did see Santander is willing to take a short term deal…
