He’s certainly not the old school type that we’ve been rumored to be after so that’s encouraging at least we are branching out a little bit. Him or the Braves scouting director who is very much a traditional baseball guy I’d be fine with.

From Rosenthal in the Athletic. He later adds its not clear if the Astros have even asked to interview him, if the Brewers would allow it or if they would want compensation for him as he's still under contact.

I’d like Stearns. Only James Harris I know went to Grambling and played quarterback for the Bills, Rams and Chargers. I like what I’ve heard about Dana Brown.

All three of them would be a massive upgrade over Brad fricking Ausmus.

Brad Ausmus is among the remaining candidates to become the next #Astros general manager, as
@OrtizKicks reported earlier today.

Another confirmation Ausmus is being considered. Bagwell must be stopped.

But with Ausmus, you’ll get the juice box jammed to the rafters with 50 yr old hotties.

Marlins are no longer pursuing Yuli. What's more likely? Yuli returns in 2023 or Bagwell quits calling him Yuri?

Yuli will sign for peanuts with the Astros or retire

His knee likely required surgery

I'm a little rusty on my Irish dialect.

But, does "Dave Roberts is a douche" roughly translate to, "frick the Dodgers!"?

Either that or "going to botch this pitching change."

I've heard it both ways.

This is so like Houston sports. Fitting.

Non traditional baseball background but his career trajectory makes it seem like he makes a quick impression and he's a fast riser.

And combine that with Kelly saying he was a liaison between lots of areas...that shows he is a good communicator and good at filtering out the important info and getting it to the folks who need it.

Am I the only one who really doesn't want Yuli to return? Astros twitter in every nugget about his possible return are all "yasss yasss bring him back as utility man!" I'm like...what utility? He's a 40 year old who hasn't played any other positions in a couple of years. I do think theres at least some probability that he bounces back from a pretty dismal 2022. His 2021 season was really good and Yuli has always been a pretty pure bat to ball productive hitter. But then maybe age has really caught up to him.

He's not supplanting Jose Abreu outside of an injury. So that slots him down to a bench role and takes ABs from Hensley and Diaz. I think Hensley can fill the Aledmys Diaz role of roaming infielder and occasional corner OF and Diaz can serve as backup catcher/1B and DH. Of course those guys are unknowns. Its entirely possible they go bust and even a diminished Yuli is a better hitter. But it feels like giving Diaz and Hensley an opportunity to succeed is beneficial beyond 2023.

I think the Astros want him to take on a coach/mentor/Cuban ambassador role instead of a roster spot, but he still wants to play.
