Starring to worry we’re done. Still a good offseason, but short of great. Catcher position still weak.
If we were done right now... the 26-man active roster is likely:
Starting lineup:
C Maldy
1B Abreu
2B Altuve
SS Pena
3B Bregs
LF Chas
CF Meyers
RF Ted
DH Yed
Bench:
Lee
Dubon
Hensley
Yainer? or Matijevic
Starting rotation:
Frambaw
Javier
LMJ
Garcia
Urquidy
Hunter Brown
Relievers:
Pressly
Montero
Abreu
Stanek
Neris
Maton
Martinez or Taylor
That team could win another World Series, but truthfully the bench is pretty weak and that should be addressed by improving a starting OF position.

I think crane was not ready at all for the tsunami of spending that hit the market. Teams are going truly all in. It's not that players are getting huge contracts, it's that those contracts are all being consolidated into 3 or 4 contending teams. Abreu is not enough of an upgrade for this team and if they don't improve the OF with LH bat it's a huge fail. Vasquez should be a no brainer over Maldonado but this is a glaring case of having no GM and no clear decision maker.

Benintendi is still available.
Brantley as well, but I assume everyone is taking a "wait and see" approach to his shoulder.
Conforto could be in play also.
For C, Vazquez I think is the obvious answer, he's not a QO guy so wouldn't cost a pick and international money, and he has to know that he'll be starting full time after 2023.
Zunino is out there, he hit 33 bombs in 2021, but he missed most of 2022 with a shoulder injury. If he's healthy he could be a value add.
Or trade for Murphy or Jansen. I just don't see a trade happening with no GM.

There's still multiple good options at LF an C and plenty of room left under the tax. Too early to panic.

I honestly hope it doesn't. We have the money to spend and the FA options are solid. Save the trade capital for the deadline.

Mancini is still available too if they really want to get the band back together.
We all know he's a better player than what we saw last season, but he's another RH bat in an already RH heavy lineup.

My #1 OF target would be Ben Nintendo.
#2 but rising fast is switch hitting Bryan Reynolds of PIT.

He's under control for three more seasons... he's not going to be cheap. Good player though, he's just average defensively but would fit in well playing LF with Chas/Jake in CF.

Some team that missed out on Nimmo is going to overpay. Conforto, Profar, Brantley would all be fine for me and keeps the door open for Vazquez if everyone can get their head out of their arse and realize Maldy needs to be backup.

By "everyone" you mean "Dusty" and we all know it's not going to happen. If we sign a C they have to know that they are going to be a part-time C and maybe part-time DH for a year until Maldy's contract is up.
If you can stomach that to be on a winning team knowing it's just one season until you're the primary C, then it's not a bad deal.

Right and I can't see Vazquez doing that. He doesn't need to. And before we sign some Garneau type character to split time I'd rather just let the kids play.

Vazquez and Zunino are the only guys available who are what I would consider a legit starting catcher. And that's assuming Zunino is healthy.
Gary Sanchez is available, but he's terrible behind the plate and doesn't hit enough to be a DH.
Some other guys like Tucker Barnhart, Austin Hedges, Omar Narvaez, Curt Casali that would be an okay backup option, but I agree, just roll with Lee and Yainer over any of those guys. If it's really not working, look at trade options.

I like several of the LF options available. I’ve been high on Conforto as a bounce back guy on a one or two year deal in particular. I’ll say the most attractive part of a trade for a guy like McCarthy on Arizona is the potential to add another younger/lower cost piece to the core, even if his production is similar to the FAs available. Extensions are coming due, guys are aging, there will be several holes to fill externally in the next few years and there’s a gap system wise because of the picks that were taken. A player like that can fill a similar purpose as someone who is promoted from the minors and excels

Yeah I want another OF and our bench is weak. Fine with Benintendi or Conforto. Also Brantley if he has no health issues.

Abreu is a big deal
If Brantley comes back before the playoffs, it might be unanswered prayers
And we probably will get Brantley cheap. Nobody is going to bet on him until he is further into his recovery.
BTW, Uncle Mike and his wife just went on a trip to Vegas with Bregs, Tucker, Hensley, wives, girlfriends, and a few of the Bregmans friends. It appears Bregs chartered a jet. One is his childhood BFF who he played ball with all those years.
How did I not hit it lucky enough to have a childhood BFF who takes me on multiple vacations a year?

That $30 million part of the contract kicks in this year

Isn't he supposed to be isolated from the crew? Good to see he's bonding. He might re-sign with us after all.
