If you use Luis Garcia to get Murphy, you then use the Contreras money to sign another solid starter who may end up being even more in our organization's hands. It's about total allocation of resources.

Hunter Brown (albeit he'll be skipped from time to time)
He pitched about 120 innings this year, so he should be good for 150-160 next year

Yes, but who could we get that fits that description?
We almost have the deal done
Don’t walk away now. LOL
As you know, I’m not married to both Garcia AND Urquidy, but one must stay

Yep.
Sean Manaea, Taijuan Walker, Ross Stripling, etc.
I mean, you're getting the second best catcher in baseball cheap for 3 years when you're trying to be a dynasty.

Added to the fact that you just won the WS without Garcia or Urquidy getting any significant innings
So how much money do we figure we have to work with to acquire this SP? If Contreras is gonna get 4 for 80, I don’t think we’d pay that.
Let’s say 4 for 60 or 3 for 50. What arm could we get for that?

I know a lot of yall like Murphy as we've discussed over the season but for my part I don't see why use the prospect capital on Murphy vs just resigning Vasquez who we've already traded a prospect for, he's well regarded defensively and been one of the better offensive catchers. But we really saw no chatter about the possibility of bringing him back.
Idk it just seems like a big prospect price to pay when we already had a decent offensive/defensive catcher and seem to have made no effort to resign him.

Murphy is so much better than Vasquez that it's not even funny. He's really good in every way, including handing a pitching staff. Plus, he is just entering his prime.
We need to see the price and how the money is spent to know if it is really a big prospect price in the grand scheme of things.

I don’t think he and Dusty get along for obvious reasons. His value is as a primary C, and we won’t use him that way.
Murphy would just be happy to be on a winner in any capacity, and would take over in ‘24.
Back to if we give up an arm to get Murphy and have to sign one, Bassitt isn’t that guy.
He wants 4 years and we would have to give up a pick b/c the Mets made him a QO
So, let’s keep looking

Eovaldi also comes to mind.
Ross Stripling is a proven swingman who just had an excellent year starting.

Kind of a bitch though.

The point is, we're talking about a 5th starter here. I can understand how someone would not want to trade Garcia for Murphy but I respectfully disagree.

Eovaldi is from Houston
And if he joins the staff, he doesn’t have to worry about our lineup hitting 5 HRs off of him in an inning again
We could get him cheap too, I think. I don’t think the market is really there for him.
I’ll do some looking on Stripling

Any trade for Murphy will require an MLB now player and a couple of top-tier prospects.
If Crane green lights a trade for Murphy, you gotta believe he’s going hard at Rodon.
I don’t think he sells the future just for one player. That will make us minimally better now and much weaker later.
If he sells some future, he’s going balls deep at a repeat. Only player out there that makes sense is Rodon. Rodon has that Javier rising fastball that shite all over the Yankees and Phillies.

Yes, Stripling wasn’t given a QO, so he meets the criteria
Interesting

If the former happened, I would not discount the possibility. Crane is enjoying his George Steinbrenner time right now.

I don't see murphy happening unless Oakland loves Lee. I don't see. Him being anything but overly costly.

What if Oakland insisted on Yainer and believed he could stick at C?
