What?

Managers are not supposed to name players they are pursuing. It is considered a form of tampering.
He can mention Re-signing FAs, like Verlander, but not other FAs.
Usually, they talk around names by saying something like “that catcher from up north “.

They aren’t under contract with any team. How is it tampering? Michael Brantley has the same association with the Astros as Wilson Contreras currently

At the Winter Meetings Dusty Baker says he didn’t think catcher Wilson Contreras was the “proper fit” during the 2022 season, but acknowledged the Astros have interest in him now and “we’re gonna talk to him.”

Frick. I thought there were tampering rules against managers talking about pursuing FA players similar to players on one team can not talk about recruiting players of other teams.

Players can recruit other free agents. It happens all the time. There is no contract to tamper with. They can't talk about/recruit players when they actually under contract

Well, I guess I Kyle Schwarbered that.
Oh fricking yes, Kyle Schwarbering is going to happen.

The Astros and Mets play next season, too bad it's in Queens.

Dusty Baker said he'd ideally like Yordan Alvarez to play "65 to 70 percent" of the games in left field next season.
I do not understand the fascination with Yed playing the field more than necessary. Just sign a fricking outfielder.

Yed has a cannon, though.

The Astros have emerged as a potential suitor for Sean Murphy, per source. Houston currently has Martin Maldonado as its catcher and has been connected to free agent Willson Contreras. Murphy, a former Gold Glove winner, is under club control through 2025.

He does and I get moist every time he nails a runner at the plate.
However, he’s clumsy AF anytime he leaves his feet and it’s just asking for an injury.

I don't disagree. He's not Tucker out there for sure.
If Tucker is a baby giraffe in the outfield, Yed is a baby hippo.

He’s proven himself an adequate fielder.
He’s had some issues running the bases when sliding, and that won’t change as a DH only
I imagine he will be Instructed to avoid the walls and the ground until the playoffs

Do we have the prospects for Murphy? Wouldn’t think we could compete with say St Louis

You either make a team like STL pay more for him or you get a stud catcher who rakes away from the Oakland dump as he enters his prime.

No
We would have to give up Garcia or Urquidy, and with JV officially out, I don’t think we can afford to take that chance
I guess something with 3 of our top 10 prospects and Stanek would do it, but we don’t have the NEED to do it
The A’s are going to want Garcia or Urquidy. Murphy and that many years of control has high value
