Rizzo back to NYY per midgitthal
Can the Astros recover after rival Yankees steal their #1 free agent first base target away from them?
By Ken Rosenthal
With a front office in disarray, New Yorks Yankees were able to move in and deny the Astros their reported #1 target at first base in Anthony Rizzo. A franchise looking for redemption in the glow of their world championship after years of abuse following the sign stealing scandal has instead found themselves amassed in a state of front office chaos. Anonymous Astros staffers say the dysfunction has caused a state of confusion and disorganization which may have lead to the team missing out on an opportunity to sign Anthony Rizzo.

My heart ain't broke over Rizzo. I did like the grind of his at bats, putting him paired with Bregs would have made for an annoyance to pitchers. But get me Abreu or Bell and I ain't mad.

Rizzo would have been great, but I don't think we were ever really spending big on him.

I definitely wanted him but there’s plenty of good options out there at either 1B or LF

Anyone who ever believed he would sign in Houston needs mental help.

Not as high or long as I expected.

Yea was never high on Rizzo TBQH.
Injuries are a concern and while he grinded out his at bats seemed like he was extremely gettable at the plate. The slug def would have transferred from Yankee Stadium to MMP though

Yeah I expected him to want a long deal at his age. He’ll be an asset for a team late into his 30’s though similar to Brantley
I also expect him to be one of the biggest benefiters of the shift rule changes

If I had a nickel....
Real talk, wouldn't y'all take Abreu for those same numbers? Really thought Rizzo would get more.

His defense at 1B was a consideration too as a Yuli replacement. Yulis ability to scoop a ball has saved us on numerous occasions. Abreu and Bell aren't much to speak of defensively.

He's a couple years older than Rizzo and doesn't bring much defensively. Would the Brantley deal work? 2/32?

I would go all in on Nimmo and trade for Ji-Man Choi. Resign Yuli cheap.
Posted on 11/15/22 at 4:15 pm to Lsuhoohoo
After the Rizzo deal, I would think that's his best case. Unless he wants to take a 1 year deal for a little more.

Thought Choi got traded to the Pirates

Pirates just traded for him. Not that they're in a place above flipping him though

I'm all for Yuli in a platoon or on the bench, but I think if he's on the roster Dusty is going to play him everyday.

Ah I didn't see the Choi deal. Bottom line is the Astros MUST add some LH hitting

I'm out on Yuli. TYFYS but the bat looked done all year. He's almost 40. I just don't see him resurrecting his bat after a dramatic drop off.
