Yeah, because the Astros owe Rosenthal a huge debt of gratitude for all the great things he’s said about them
I’m sure our 3 headed braintrust were sitting around with Crane and Bags and said I feel like making our main free agent target known to the world, and there’s no better way to convey it than through Ken Frickin Rosenthal
bullshite. I can smell it on my fingers just from holding my phone when reading it. But hey, whatever we can do to help out what the media want to happen

The Astros have identified Anthony Rizzo as their No. 1 free-agent target at first base, per @Ken_Rosenthal
Over JV?
Regardless this is the type of early free agency rumors that never hold up
ETA: I skipped over the "at first base" line

Yeah… kinda makes me think he knows he’s signing somewhere else and just wants to be able to write “Astros miss on #1 target”

Rosenthal is probably tight with Rizzo's agent. No way the Astros will confide in Rosenthal. If anyone in that front office does, they should be fired immediately.

We know how the game is played
Rosenthal just slants it as from the Astros side with his wording
So few left that earn ur respect

Also gets his Yankee followers all juiced up about a free agent battle with their most disliked new rival.

Rizzo will never be an astros

What's your forecast on Yuli?
Posted on 11/15/22 at 8:54 am to markinkaty
Dpeneds on who they sign but I think 50/50 he comes back as a utility guy at very low rate. If they sign a legit 1b he could retire.

He was clutch in playoffs, but we need more homers from first base. Possibly replace Diaz, I agree.

What utility?

Yeah he’s 1B only at this point. If we are going to go cheaper at 1B I wouldn’t mind a Brandon Belt/Yuli platoon. He was still pretty good against lefties last year

If Yuli comes back, you know Dusty is playing him full time. "Gotta have the gold glove out there".
I love Yuli, and what we saw in the playoffs gave me hope, but so much of managing Dusty seems to be keeping the toys that he can hurt himself with away from him.

We've got our first Astros palace intrigue piece courtesy of Passan. It's behind an ESPN+ paywall but I'll sum it up
~Crane is becoming Jerry Jones
~Crane respected the ruthlessness Luhnow operated with which mirrored Cranes own business operations
~Crane is leaning on Bagwell and Reggie Jackson as key advisors and wanted more "baseball guys" involved in operations
~Bagwell was critical of player development
~Reggie Jackson yelled at people
~Ausmus is a name of interest as a "baseball guy" with front office experience and friendly toward analytics.
I don't love that Cranes closest group of advisors within the organization are Bagwell, Reggie and Dusty. Love Baggy, but having heard his baseball worldview on the broadcast, I don't want him dictating the organizational course forward. If that's the case, Ausmus is going to end up our GM. That's Baggys guy.

Yeah, I didn't read it when I saw who wrote it. Didn't realize it was the Plus
As far as Yuli is concerned, had he not went down with the knee, I would have expected him back in Aledmys' spot.
Hensley is versatile enough to handle every position, which gives you the luxury of having Yuli as a bench guy. But if his knee was meniscus and requires laparoscopy, he probably should retire

Not sure if I would cheer or puke.

There was a lot of speculation in there that’s hard to put much stock in. Very little actual intel
Posted on 11/15/22 at 10:18 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Agreed, wasn't much substance to it. But there was a rush on "Astros in disarray" content.

Astros FO management has been everything that the Yankees have not been
Their GM was making deals without a contract at the GM meetings, so maybe they're catching on
