A special talent without a doubt but we have no postseason evidence. Not his fault but that's the reality of his sad misfortune.

.190 BA, .241 Slug, .483 OPS in 13 postseason games this past playoffs.

J.R. Richard owned the Dodgers the last few years of his career, and I’m sure he would have won the 1-game playoff in ‘80 like Niekro did had he been available and called upon to pitch. He just didn’t blossom until he won 20 in 1976 and had 4 1/2 good years.

His prime was a small sample in an era where starters went deeper into games and sometime were part of 4-man rotations.

13 games make him not an all time great anymore?

Also how is that relevant to whether he can play 2B long term

JR Richard is like the Cecil Collins of the Astros, but Cecil’s short stint was self-inflicted, JR Richard’s was not.

When you see JR Richard pitch, he appears to be the most dominant Astro to ever step on the mound, but his sample size is too short to call him the best ever Astro pitcher. His career really didn’t start until 1975, and it ended midway through the 1980 season due to a massive blood clot.

To be clear, I never called him the best ever Astro pitcher.

I said in his prime, he is the pitcher I want on the mound of a winner-take-all WS game. His "prime" was better than the other guys listed "primes".

He was absolutely terrifying on the mound.

Of course, this is merely my opinion and I definitely expect everyone to agree. That list given has some incredible pitchers on it.

"Best ever Astro pitcher" - That's a very tough decision to make. But, definitely not JR, he simply didn't have a long enough career.

I’m sorry if I insinuated you did.

I was just speaking to what my thoughts are on JR Richard. I think if he continued the pace he was on for about four more years, I’d be willing to call him our best pitcher.

To me his strength was hitting in the clutch. He REALLY struggled in the post-season.

How old is he now.

I was responding initially and specifically to another's question in posting those stats.

idk, i am interested to see how altuve does post-swift.

That up the middle single that he lived off of early in his career was eaten up by the swift.

edit: nevermind, you meant defensively

We've now arrived at the rationalization stage where the Dodgers start to admit everybody was cheating but the Astros were extra-cheating

quote:

@dylanohernandez

Clayton Kershaw wasn't bothered when the #Dodgers' hired a former Red Sox staffer who was suspended for a year for his role in a sign-stealing scheme. "... there needs to be a clear distinction between what the Astros did and what everybody else did."

quote:

@BenDuBose

"The Astros... used a live video feed to steal signs in real-time and relayed that information to hitters."

Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts acknowledged that he was aware his (Red Sox) team was using live video feeds to stealing signs. “Yeah,” Betts said, “everybody was.”

LOL

A hearty chunk of Dubon has reported to camp

Mauricio Dubón when the Astros acquired him: 165 lbs. Mauricio Dubón reporting to spring training this week: 190 lbs. "I was eating at least 5,000 calories and forcing myself to eat. There was times I didn’t want to see food, smell anything." -

Interesting, Clayton. How about you tell us more about what "everyone else" did.

A one-handed Alvarez is still preferable to a two handed 190-pound Dubon.

Asked if there were conversations about an offseason surgery for Yordan Alvarez, Dusty Baker replied that doctors “said he didn’t need it.”

Good doctors.

"My hand hurts when I do this."

"Okay, then don't do that."
