Kyle Tucker is gone.
I do believe we have three more years with him, so let’s just enjoy the runoff panocha while we can.

Jose Altuve on GM Dana Brown saying he wants to extend Jose Altuve beyond 2024 when his contract expires, keeping Jose here for good: “I like when he said that. I have been all my career here and I hope to retire here. I think we’re on the same page.”

I'm bringing over a Twitter debate I saw...
Where do yall put Altuve with iconic franchise players? Its Biggio and Bagwell now, our lifer hall of famers. They've got the longevity and most statistical marks.
Biggio played 20 seasons, Bagwell had 15 and this will be Altuves 13th. He's pretty well approaching 3rd place behind those guys in most offensive categories. Can we go ahead and put Altuve on the Astros Mt Rushmore with Biggio and Bagwell.

Altuve’s playoff achievements alone put him past both of them, if he never plays another game

Brought the big prize home twice, just like Olajuwon.

He’s the all-time Astro. We have a lot of popular franchise greats going back to the franchise’s inception and I still love many of them. But the two titles put him above Biggio, Bagwell and Ryan.

Especially since he helped bring them out of the 110 loss seasons.

Yeah, GOAT. More interesting convo is probably who you’d put 4th.
The franchise should prioritize having him retire in Houston and being a visible part of the organization in retirement, similar to Bags and Biggio.
I know you don’t want to pay older guys for past performance, but when a guy is that beloved by a fan base I think you make an exception. Similar to Jeter.

I think the question is whether Altuve can hang at 2B in his late years. It’s been iffy lately but he gets by. The presence of Alvarez is gonna make it hard to DH him

The shift was his friend. It’ll be interesting.

Yeah I’m a little concerned about it

Good point about that. Making a definitive Top 5.
As for GOAT, Jose has already been an All-Star more than both Bagwell and Biggio as well. Now let's look at the playoffs, where Jose has a .844 OPS compared to .685 for Bags and .618 for Biggio.
A >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> B's
Top 5 Astros
Altuve
Bagwell
Biggio
Berkman
Cruz
Honorable Mention
Ryan
Oswalt
Dierker

Even though his Astros career was brief I think you have to put Verlander in the honorable mentions. Only Astro with multiple Cy Young’s, will finish as the franchise leader in a lot of the pitcher rate type stats, part of two championship teams. Just my opinion

Agreed.
In fact, if you needed a pitcher in their prime with us to start one must-win game, you'd have to pick from JV, Oswalt and 1986 Scott. After them, Ryan (I'm being a bit kind here), Clemens, Hampton, Richard (so short of a prime), Niekro, Cole, 2015 Keuchel and Dierker.

If we’re talking in-their-prime must-win game, the top of that list is JR Richards. Everyone else on your list are good options, sure.
But James Rodney Richards in his prime beats every one of them.
