So why is Gurriel better than Pearce?

Because he's better.

Checked the weather and there's a good chance the roof should be closed for our home games.

Remember from the 2005 fiasco that MLB takes jurisdiction over the decision to open or close the roof but they stick to the MMP groundrules.

Roof stays closed if it's below 65 for a night game..

Tuesday at 4 PM: 65 with a 50% chance of rain

Wednesday at 7:40: 64 degrees

Thursday at 7:10: 68 degrees

Thursday's game looks like it might be cutting it close though.

I wonder how many times that’s happened

Is the argument for closing the roof more for crowd noise or ball flight?

I sort of feel like y’all over think this.

I think that’s a fair analysis. I will say I think it’s interesting that Cora is going with Price in game 2. He has had great success against us so I don’t think it’ll be another outing like against NY, but he’s still never won a postseason start so you gotta wonder if that has any effect mentally

Lets say he does struggle in game 2...you’d still have to start him again later in the series, right? If I was Boston I feel like it could be safer to go with Eovaldi or Porcello and then pitch Price in game 4. Then he could be used out of the pen in games 1/7 (he did very well against us in relief last year)

Plus, Eovaldi and Porcello both looked outstanding in the ALDS. One of them is only getting 1 start

Cora is a lot smarter than me though I hope he used up all his good luck against the Yankees cause pretty much every decision he made regarding lineups worked brilliantly

I like the move to start Price second. He is Boston's second best pitcher. The reality is that Boston needs Price to beat the Astros and win the WS. Can't do it without him so you might as well start him second and see what he can do.

Who would argue the value of Pearce over Gurriel?

Definitely not any GMs, and if you find someone, likely not one you should bother with a discussion. LOL

And Pearce’s immediate family, agent, and high school coach

Even the kids he grew up w in the neighborhood would take Gurriel. LOL

I will be the contrarian and sort of argue it. Pearce was absolutely better than Yuli this year when he was healthy. He missed like two months of time with an oblique injury.

That said Pearce has always been a platoon guy and his career numbers vs RHP are pretty pedestrian. I would probably choose Yuli for this series if picking between them but it’s close.

J.B. Bukauskas, Astros -- The righty was impressive in his first AFL start, striking out five hitters over 3.1 innings. His command wasn’t always sharp, but he showed plenty of power in his three-pitch arsenal. He topped out at 98 mph with his fastball and threw several nasty changeups in the low 90s.
