Will be at the game. Should be a dandy

You can slice and dice the what-ifs all season.
Simple fact is, Luhnow &Co have a protocol for how they evaluate talent and risk. Sometimes, they get it very right. Sometimes, they get it very wrong.
With Verlander? They got a gold star. With Gomez? They got the pile ‘O shite emoji.
With letting Morton go, they got a truck load of poop emojis. With Brantley and Alvarez, they should get a parade.
At least, that’s how I see it.

Ahh yeah, I've been waiting for this game all year. The guy we let get away when we had pitching issues comes back to shut down what's supposed to be one of the best lineup's in MLB.

All signs pointed to his shoulder falling off after last season
Must be the same signs that said our farm system pitching was going to be successful in the majors one day or the signs that McHugh and Peacock would save the day.

Verlander vs Morton on my off day and for some reason I didn't have this game on my radar to go to

There should be serious questions about lunhow's ability to develop major league pitchers from his own system. 1 guy in 7 years.

The money not spent on Morton went to Brantley. Would you trade Uncle Mike for Uncle Charlie? Doubtful.
Very happy with Brantley signing, hindsight being 20/20, I also would liked to have spend money on Charlie

Yeah with hindsight I think we would all rather have Charlie at 2/35 or whatever vs Greinke and what we had to give up.

Aaron Sanchez will probably get a chance to be in the rotation. Then add another Miley type free agent.

I not only think it will be a Miley type, I think it will be Miley on a two year deal.

It is troublesome. Do we count Peacock in ludlows corner? Heck Id be less concerned if one of the guys we spun off in trades had done something but Velazquez and Musgrove are not significantly better than framber
I think the tandem starter thing they do in the minors contributes to a lot of it. For the talents like Whitley it reinforces bad habits-runs up a pitch count just trying to out gas people and makes it to the 4th or 5th relatively unscathed in the lower minors and gets his planned pulling. Never has to struggle to go deeper in games and refine his command to do so. Then you have an inflated ego who has never faced adversity

I think the tandem start thing is just an innings limiter more than anything
There may be some subconscious change by the pitcher in that regard, but the simple answer is that maybe they haven’t drafted many talented pitchers.
They take guys who are so-so and maximize their talent, but that talent isn’t good enough

I get thats the idea but doesnt it make more sense to let them go longer and then shut down later in season if needed?
All it does is reinforce bad habits imo

Maybe so. I don’t have an opinion one way or the other.
Like I said, for me, it’s more about the quality of pitcher we’re drafting.
Seems like it would be easier to take a guy like Shane Bieber with ++ control and teach them velocity than it is to draft high spin guys and teach them to keep stuff under control. (obviously Bieber is an outlier) But Cleveland has something figured out, they have been churning out some pitchers
It’s like we’re stuck in a high risk/high reward pitcher evolution and none of them are panning out

The only guys I think your argument applies to are the ones like Whitley who have legitimate TOR upside and you want facing guys deep in games. It’s pretty rare everywhere in MLB these days that starters are working deep into games. The average IP per start (or “bulk guy”) is barely over 5 IIRC
The pitcher development is definitely concerning I just don’t think the tandem strategy is what’s causing it
