In my mind there are only two great Astros pitchers.

Mike Scott and Charlie Morton. They did it when it counted.

Lol at not paying Morton this past offseason -- what a joke.

Yes it seemed like a no-brainer....should have been number one priority. I was fine with Dallas walking but not Morton.

Ws would have been a lock with Morton. Period.

To be fair, he was pretty bad the last half of last year, and horrific in the playoffs.

I don’t think anyone expected him to go to TB and do BETTER than he ever did in Houston, and stay healthy

Can anyone give me a logical explanation as to why we didn’t pay Morton?

I’ll be open-minded.

I think that’s the point. They didn’t want to commit to that.

I’m not saying it wasn’t a bad decision to not sign him, I’m just saying it was a little more nuanced then they didn’t want to spend the money

Legit concerns on if he would stay healthy... All signs pointed to his shoulder falling off after last season

I have to assume it was injuries/poor performance

As much as I love Nolan Ryan, Mike Scott was my favorite Astros pitcher by a lot. I got to see him pitch many times in person. For the most part he was money.

If I had to name one sports event that didn't take place, but should have, that I would most like to see, the off the charts answer is Game 7 of the 1986 NLCS. Scott would have drug his nuts all over the Mets faces yet again.

But it never should have come down to that anyway. The 4-run blown lead in the game where Dykstra homered off Smitty to win it, plus the 3 run blown lead in the 9th of Game 6. fricking Bob Knepper

Morton was gone no matter what, his desire was to leave. His only being able to go 4 innings at most, in the end, probably factored into the Astros not signing him.

The money not spent on Morton went to Brantley. Would you trade Uncle Mike for Uncle Charlie? Doubtful.

Great, and we had to pay a price for Greinke.

Well, that could be one way to look at it.

Or, we spent $13 M on Reddick

For a measly $4M more per year, we could have had Morton this year and next
