Nightengale reports that Joe was notified he would not get a new contract and was given the option to stay or leave.

He’s obviously said he’d play out the season. So he’s like a double lame duck leading the team that can still accomplish a goal of winning a division. So bizarre. It’s not a needle mover but trying to squeeze some juice out of this bunch with a new face probably wouldn’t have hurt?

You don’t understand. We missed the playoffs last year. Ownership change is needed.

All good points and I can’t deny that many fan bases would gladly take the last four years.

And I can appreciate the McNair analogy, however, the NFL structure sort of lends itself to opportunity for a quick turnaround…MLB at least for now is a different animal.

I think the references to Jerry Jones are valid even though obviously there is a much bigger sample size with Jerry. Best owner in franchise history, but also a big-time meddler and hindrance to sustained success since the championship years.

I just would like a different direction rather than more of the same…ie needed to move from Dusty, but then hire someone from within his staff…dismiss the GM who was being undermined, but then hire another one and undermine him. Hitting coaches replaced with similar philosophy. The aforementioned medical staff fiasco.

That’s what worries me the most. Even though they’re saying “interim” I think it’s a foregone conclusion that Bagwell is going to be involved and as long as he is, we’re in trouble

Espada and Brown are out of my ball club. Today, I will celebrate that. Tomorrow, I will worry about the Crane/Bagwell shite. Today is a victory

Presser tomorrow from Crane. I imagine it will go something like this: "Blah blah blah..the window will always be open while I'm in charge..blah blah blah"

Can he also ask the league to fire whoever made these shite arse schedules that have the Rangers and Astros both only playing division opponents 6 times out of their last 30 games and none against each other?

We’ll see. Luhnow convinced Crane that analytics nerds were the way to go in baseball. Bagwell showed him the back of the baseball card. Maybe he’ll interview someone with balls enough to bring him back to the light.

But we were told the Astros had to move to the AL because the Astros-Rangers rivalry was going to be big. Funny how the Yankees and Red Sox never seem to be done playing each other in August, but this has happened to the Astros and Rangers at least twice and possibly three times that I can recall.

The 6 division games in the last 30 is a product of the decision to cut games against each division team from 19 to 13 to fulfill the idiotic mandate that every team plays every other team in MLB every year.

Sadly, you may be right. I was surprised he wasn't hired when they fired Dusty Baker.

Uh, do you even MLB bro?

You can't hire a white jew right after firing a black dude.

You have to have a middle-ground minority.

To be fair, the Astros media reported a family emergency and this guy is indicating he was told he’s canned at year’s end.

I don’t understand firing someone and letting them keep their job. No scenario is good. He either fails to make the playoffs and everyone blame it on a lame duck, or the team rallies and makes the postseason and now you are firing a guy who made the playoffs or won the division. It’s lose lose all the way around. Just a mind bogglingly stupid decision. If you don’t want him to return next year but are ok with him finishing the season, just keep it to yourself for about 6 weeks. Who is advising this guy?
