I saw a report that last year the team saw the management not make a move at the deadline and was deflated by that. I think same would happen this year

I thought someone mentioned that yesterday.

It's entirely possible that our across the board injuries are making it hard to deal right now. Fisher is having to fill in. Moran had to fill in but got hurt. Paulinho got banned. Our top 3 rotation pitcher are all coming off of injuries. Besides tucker and Whitley who we value too much it limits our trade pool of upper end prospects.

Not saying this is the reason we haven't dealt yet but maybe luhnow is worried that he would have to trade our very best to get help that may not be enough because of the injury concerns.

Dammit Jeff.

For one thing, he's awful. His numbers are decent against lefties but he's been in the rotation all year. Can he pitch out of the pen back to back games? Is he gonna be a bitch about being traded and moved to a limited bullpen role?

Going from Darvish/Britton or Verlander/WIlson to Lynn/Liriano

Astros Closing In On Francisco Liriano TradeJuly 31st, 2017 at 12:18pm CST • By Steve Adams

The Astros are “on the verge” of acquiring Francisco Liriano from the Blue Jays, reports USA Today’s Bob Nightengale (on Twitter). MLB Network’s Ken Rosenthal reported (also via Twitter) that the two sides were in talks and added that Houston plans to use Liriano as a reliever.

While the 33-year-old Liriano has had a poor season in the Toronto rotation, he’s maintained his velocity and his effectiveness against left-handed opponents. That’s led to plenty of speculation, both here and elsewhere, that the veteran southpaw could emerge as a possible bullpen option for teams unwilling to meet the asking prices on the market’s top relievers.

Through 63 plate appearances this season, left-handed opponents are batting just .230/.254/.361 against Liriano. The lefty has a 17-to-1 K/BB ratio in those matchups and has averaged nearly 93 mph on his fastball this season. One would imagine that in moving to a short relief role, that velocity could tick upward a couple of notches.

Liriano smells like a backup plan because he couldn't land Wilson/Britton/Hand. So grab a terrible LH starter with decent platoon splits and move him to the bullpen. Mehhh.

What if they get Liriano for a low end prospect etc and still add another reliever or starter?

Saw the Indians are reportedly out in Britton.

Edit: just hoping this isn't "the" move

#BlueJays and #Astros deal for Francisco Liriano is pending a physical. Sounds like an outfielder in coming back in return

The best part of all this is that if we went out and got Gray, Darvish, Hand, and Britton people would be mad about mortgaging the future.
