but you guys are being dishonest to yourselves if you don't realize we don't play to win each game.
I question how much baseball you watch as a whole if you think they’re the exception to this

My take is that Luhnow expected to win a lot of games on offense and have “just enough” pitching.
What he didn’t expect is the entire lineup worth a shite going on DH. I also think he expected Whitley to be a stud with the big club starting in June.
And most importantly, he didn’t expect the juiced balls. You’re seeing excellent pitchers like Verlander and Cole give up tons of long balls. This makes their starts less effective. But the biggest impact is to the decent pitchers like Peacock and McHugh... not stars, but reliable and decent. With those guys, and the other BP arms, you’re seeing them get torched by mediocre hitters over and over again. Some of it is bad pitching, but a lot of it is mediocre hitters benefiting from juiced balls.
Sure, it’s happening to other teams too, but it’s less noticeable because most of those teams are supposed to suck anyway.

Pretty solid and rational explanation of the situation.
I just hope we take care of what we need to in the next 2 weeks.

Anybody see Machado was pissed at the mlbtv coverage on Marisnick? Then pulled the race card.
quote:
"If it was me, I would have probably gotten 20 games," Machado saidduring an Instagram Live video Tuesday night. "Byrnes, he knows everything about the game ... 'good play,' he's incredible. ... Talking about how they threw at (Marisnick's) head, how about when I got thrown at my head? Nobody was backing me up. They were saying that I deserved it. ...
quote:
"Marisnick, good job ... took it like a champ. Mad respect for that. ... fricking Plesac, oh my god, this guy. Plesac and Byrnes - biggest tools out there. They don't know what they are talking about over there. I guess they gotta talk about something at least. They gotta protect their people.
quote:
"Machado? Forget about Machado. ... that's the key word, Machado - Latino."

Yeah Manny it could be that or you purposely spiking first basemen’s ankles and throwing your bat at pitchers

No shite... I mean isn't he consistently voted the dirtiest player by his peers?

And here's how NBC sports covers it...

Seriously what in the frick?

Machado says it’s attributable, at least in part, to him being Latino. I think people can reasonably disagree on the question of whether Machado, personally, has been unfairly judged. But I think it’s pretty indisputable that, generally, Latino players get way, way, way less benefit of the doubt for “hard play” vs. “dirty play” and for being “hotheaded” as opposed to being “competitors” than non-Latinos get. Those stereotypes are well-established. Academic research has been conducted on that stuff, confirming such inherent bias on the part of white commentators. Some of Machado’s peers in the game have said the same thing, both in general, and about Machado’s treatment personally.
Seriously what in the frick?

How hilarious and sad is it that Manny Machado, of all people, seems himself as some sort of victim?
I seriously cant get over it and Manny Machado grew up in the US.

I’d actually like to see Altuve air mail a throw into the Angels dugout and peg pujols in the sternum.
I vote for this. For all the pain that dude has caused me over the years, I want him.

In 2019 anyone can be a victim. Including the guy who just got a $300,000,000 contract

The entire staffs who write about baseball and football for NBC Sports’ web properties feast on writing anti-management stuff and they are also Deadspin-ish in their ability to flash the race card. To expect anything else from their baseball and football sites is incredibly foolish.

Machado - Latino
He's from Florida
It actually pisses me off he plays for Dominican Republic at WBC. He was born in the U.S. and lived in U.S. his whole life. He's not Dominican.
