Potential replacements on the farm are Whitcomb, Dezenzo and maybe Matthews.
I mean, the way is trading Breggy, right?
Anything you can get for him prospect wise may possibly help in the long run and he’s not gonna magically turn into an elite player at this stage.
He’s put some good swings on some balls recently and has hit into some bad luck though.
What teams may be interested and what do they have that we’d be interested in?

Wot. He’s slashed 322/384/467 in June and you’ve drug yourself back into the race
Only way you think about moving him is if you nose dive this next week and then at Seattle after the break

Are you advocating to resign him as well? I’m just thinking of the year too early vs. the year too late principle.
Third is a hard position to replace and he’s been much better lately, but I don’t know about breaking the bank to keep him. He’s at 1.1 WAR for the season and is fat and slow and his D has seemed to have fallen a bit this year.
Just trying to have a discussion about what the DAT thinks. They seem to watch and are more knowledgeable than Crane’s boys.

No I’d let him walk and thank him for his service.
The odds that you get anything that pans out in return for him are so minuscule, you have more than a punchers chance to make the playoffs now with an aging/nearing free agency core so might as well ride it out. It’s fun to play the let’s trade out of the free agent player and try to compete but I just don’t think that’s reality.
Especially at a pretty barren position when it comes to offensive production
It’s a fun discussion for sure and there’s no right or wrong opinion. They could go 2-8 and I’ll look like a moron (for the millionth time) and then move him and that would be okay

That makes sense. I guess I’m still stuck in the five games (or more) under .500 mindset, but these guys have fought back and do have a shot at making a heck of a run as things currently stand. Give it a run unless (like you said) they nosedive in the next little bit and then try to get compensation for those that are going to be gone anyway.

Were not resigning him but were not trading him. Were trying to make a playoff push and there's no obvious replacement for him. You're not replacing a guy with his playoff experience and throwing a rookie into the giant hole created in the lineup.
I was in favor of trading him when the team was floundering around but if they've got a playoff push in them, hold on to him and then let him walk and collect a compensation pick for him.

It’s been such a struggle this year that I forgot that…
Thanks for the lively discussion!

Looking ahead, July looks like a manageable schedule
@ Blue Jays
@Twins
Marlins
Rangers
@Seattle
@ A's
Dodgers
Pirates
August however looks like a bit of a gauntlet
Rays
@Rangers
@Red Sox
@Rays
White Sox
Red Sox
@Orioles
@Phillies
Royals
7 of 9 series currently at .500 or better.
