Dang good job Altuve after chasing that 1-0 pitch to battle

I did not think he had that in him. I had a whole post in my head ready to go bitching about him swinging at 1-0 in the other batter’s box and changing the entire AB.

I was also about to post to ask the board if it was wrong that I was hoping Delgado wouldn’t walk so that I wouldn’t have to watch Altuve bat with the bases loaded!

Glad to be proven wrong on all of it!

It’s a huge ask and departure from his whole career, but if he doesn’t start taking walks, he will have almost zero value moving forward. He’s kind of given up hustling down the line on batted balls on the infield and has also lost a step. I’m sure that Ichiro and Altuve have the most infield hits since 2000. If he’s not getting those, his value on the field is neutralized. Of course, he’ll probably hit a six run walk off dinger in game 7 of the World Series to make up for it all, but it’s not been fun watching him flail recently.

All good points. His approach has to change. He’s such a polar opposite from your namesake, whose game I think would have aged beautifully if not for the injuries and desire to spend more time with family.

Altuve started off the year with a new outlook to take more pitches. Didn’t last long.

Pisses me off when you sign a defensive guy like Allen and he can’t even be counted on to bunt

And on top of that can K three times in a game

frick off, dude. We literally let Dubon go for that

Yep. He had an unusual number of walks the first few weeks. 8 walks the first week, then another 9 in April. But quickly fell off the wagon.

Great win.

Credit where it’s due for Burrows settling in after the bad first and getting some length. Outstanding at bats to run Joe Ryan’s pitch count up and the biggest AB of the game fortunately being there for the best hitter in baseball and he finally got on top of that top rail fastball. And the bullpen was outstanding again

Get another series tomorrow
