I agree. A fast start would get people back really quick. You can feel the excitement brewing.
ETA: I know it's only one game into the season, but people want to care again. And there's a lot of momentum after a good off season and new TV deal.
That's true, that they want to care again. My dad was the one who got me into the Astros years ago, but over the last few he's stopped following quite a bit because they were never on tv and they were awful. He called me last night so excited he's going to be able to watch them again and wishes he had followed them like me the last few years as some of these guys came to the bigs and other made way through the minors (which was basically following guys online with stats because that was best option available with those Comcast pricks).
People never stopped caring, but Comcast made them forget how much they love the Astros because we couldn't keep a connection with the organization. Between the new contract and excitement of young players people really want to care again.
All I can say is:

That's a very good way of putting it.
Several of my friends who were life long Astros fans starting following the Rangers more because they no longer had access to the Astros, without making an extra effort. Now with them being in peoples homes again people should feel a connection with the team again finally.

I was at the game last night and there was a genuine buzz around MMP. In the past few seasons there had been a buzz on opening day but this was different, a sense of hope. Fans see that we are turning the corner and have a chance now. They see the light at the end of the tunnel. As was said I think on Twitter, there has not been this much excitement in MMP since the Biggio 2,000 Hit in 2007. Lets hope yesterday is just a sign of things to come for the Astros. I would love to see 20,000+ at the game tomorrow night.

I see where both Presley and White have been placed on outright waivers. Will be interesting to see if anyone claims them and picks up their full salary.
If not, do they elect FA or accept a role as AAA depth?
Looking at the depth of the Astros right now, 3B could be really solid for the next few years if both Valbuena and Moran develop as expected.
Second Base has solid depth behind Altuve.
First base has Singleton - hopefully he gets his shite together. Who do they have behind him? AJ Reed?
SS -- no need to discuss.
Catcher -- After Castro is Stassi. Who else?
The outfield is stacked with talent all the way from A-ball to the MLB club.

I think they like Tyler Heineman a lot as well.
I'm excited to see what Reed can do in a full year, I'm still hoping he can rise quickly. Is JD Davis looking like an outfielder most likely? I remember people thinking he couldn't stick at 3B

Why aren't the Astros on a substantial radio network in Southern Louisiana ? Has the mobile devices made the need for radio broadcasts obsolete ?
I enjoyed sitting back listening to the Stros' from 1983-2000 on local channel in Baton Rouge.

Can you guys give me the latest on MMP? Going to my first game in a few years with my brother in law next Saturday.
Where to park/eat?
Time to arrive for 6:00 game?
Should we get there early and eat at the stadium & watch BP? What time?
Assuming this is still true, I guess we can expect BP around 3:45 for a 6:10 game.

If white isn't claimed he has to take the assignment. Pressley can refuse the assignment but he'll forfeit his $1 million salary. If they go unclaimed and arent traded, they'll be in our minors.

There are still pay lots all around that side of downtown, and the price is dependent on how willing you are to walk.
As far as eating it depends on what you're looking for, there's a lot more options over there though that have popped up as far as places to drink and eat. Ninfas on Nav is a favorite of mine and not too far from the stadium, hitting 8th Wonder (brewery) on Dallas street and one of the food trucks parked outside is a good option as well, especially if it's a nice day.
There's a Woodrow's there now between MMP and BBVA on the other side of 59 and places like Lucky's and Bus Bar close by as well for regular sports bars. Irma's is a pretty low key local spot close by as well. I usually like to eat outside and have a beer since ballpark food is expensive, but I might amend that for the waffle cone the first game I go to this year

Sucks no game tonight! Me and my Red Sox buddy are making ALCS plans...
My wife took a great pic of Bullpen Assistant Javier Bracamonte in spring training. I am going to make into an Astros win pic. I hope to post it about 95 times this year.
If our 4th/5th starters can hold their own and we can hit against the other teams 4th/5th guys, it could stay interesting for a while.
Go Stros!!!

They were charging 30 to 40 bucks for parking anywhere near the stadium. Dynamic parking pricing I guess...bullshite.

quote:I parked on the street at a meter for just under $4. Parking is free from 6pm onward so all you have to pay is time before then at $1.25 an hour. Only games i've paid for parking at a lot is weekday day games because street parking at noon is tough.

Thanks for posting this -- I was just about to go looking for it to see what time I need to leave for Houston tomorrow to get there in time to check in at the hotel and then walk over to the park for BP.

Vogelsong's line tonight (starting game 2 due to the Cain injury)
4.2IP 6H 7R 7ER 4BB 5K 2HR
Glad this bum decided to take his "talent" back to the west coast.

Man, with Cain and Peavy down, the Giants are seriously hurting.

Not sure how long it will last, but I am still feeling great about last night's win against a solid Cleveland club.
Off-Topic, if I wanted to be a dick like some other fans that like to post in the DAT, I'd start a thread making fun of the Cubs for having to postpone tonight's game because of the shitter fiasco on opening night.
I also find that interesting because they are rescheduling for a much later date for when Bryant will already be called up to the big league club. That genius Theo sure is smart... cause a literal shite-storm on opening night just to get their top prospect in the lineup against their biggest rival later in the season.
Oh, wait. Their official reasoning was because it was cold. And windy. In Chicago.

Haven't been back in a couple years but the original Ninfa's on Navigation had a shuttle that brought us to Minute Maid after we ate and had a couple margaritas. Not sure if they're still doing that...just something to look into.
