Pujols is out of the lineup today. Assuming he doesn't pick up a pinch hit, he should come to Houston at 2,992 hits. Possible but unlikely that he picks up 3,000 against us.

They may even sit him one of those games to ensure he picks it up at home since they've got a long home stand after our series.

It's a super rotation no doubt. But let's ditch the fallacy about our pitching order/rankings. Lance is our 5th starter.

I hate to say it but this team is just missing something. Can't put my finger on it. Glad for the wins against these terrible Teams.

Something far more interesting in Anaheim. A 21-pitch at bat:

@MLB
The last time someone reached 20 pitches in an at-bat? That would be Ricky Gutiérrez … in 1998 … against …

Bartolo Colon.

O/U 2.5

Number of times Gutierrez threw his bat into the crowd in that AB.

I present to you a potential DH who last year hit .285 with a .323 OBP 30 doubles 2 triples 17HR 85RBI 36 walks 74 strikeouts.

In 2016 he hit .296 .345OBP 42 doubles 5 triples 14HR 86RBI 47 walks 69 strikeouts

He remains a free agent. Any takers?!

Melky Cabrera? Sounds like a better option than Gattis for sure.

Yunel Escobar would also be a potential option.

It is indeed the Melkman.

I've been stumping for him since the off season. His numbers are nothing spectacular but he's consistently solid. He'd be another competent bat.

Wish they would let white or davis get the hacks as a DH that gattis is getting.

I don't think Gattis will continue to be so bad. He's a better hitter than the garbage he's been.

I honestly don't think it would be a bad idea to get him a start at catcher. You always hear about the mental aspect of being a DH being a burden during a slump. Because you go back to the dugout and just stew on your bad ABs. Maybe give him a chance to play and get out of his own head.

It has been known that Gattis has hit better when he plays in the field, but he is an emergency C only now

Did anyone catch Buster Olney calling out Gerrit Cole for supposedly using pine tar?

LINK

quote:

The potential value of pine tar was raised in a recent social media conversation about the early-season performance of Gerrit Cole. After it was suggested in a thread of tweets that the spin rate on Cole's four-seam fastball has jumped significantly, and there was speculation about the use of pine tar, the Indians' Trevor Bauer jumped into the conversation April 11:

quote:

Sarah Langs of ESPN Stats & Information sent along Cole's spin rate on his four-seamer from recent seasons. So far this season, his spin rate on his fastball has jumped up to 2,332 from last year's 2,163, which had been consistent with 2016 (2,178) and 2015 (2,157). The spin rates on his curveball and changeup have remained almost identical from year to year, but his slider has dropped significantly, from 974 to 669.

So, the pine tar is only present when he throws his fastball. Never used pine tar, but I don't think that's how it works.
