East Coast bias. New York writer who probably remembers nothing but Wagner's postseason struggles with the Mets in the 2006 NLCS.

That's it for the pre-annoucement ballots.

Yes, but do you really think most of us did not already see it coming?

Jose Altuve can play another 10 years, end up with 4,000 hits and win 3 more MVPs, he will never get voted into the HOF simply because of the East Coast and West Coast bias of the bulk of the HOF voters.

I'm not saying Altuve is currently a HOF worthy player, but if he does play another 5 years at current levels, he at the minimum should be considered over Utley. But he will never get close to the votes because of banging trash cans.

Altuve likely gets in but asshurt writers on the east and west coast will make him wait. Probably until his last year on the ballot.

Absolutely the only way even this happens is if it is coincidentally the first year for Judge to be on the ballot.

I can see voters voting him in first ballot and voting Altuve in on last ballot just as a final "frick you".

Honestly, I don't see Altuve making it because of 2017.

You guys are delusional or just pulling each other’s legs

Altuve would have to have a career ending injury

He holds or will hold almost every offensive playoff record in history when he’s done

I could see some backlash if he were an a-hole, but he’s genuinely kind and loved by all players

I’ll take any odds, Vegas or anywhere else

On a more positive note.

I saw this quote on a twittersphere and couldn’t help but hear Brad saying, “how can you not be romantic about baseball?”

quote:

When Joe calls me that I’m gonna be the bench coach, I was on the couch with my dog and my wife, and I gotta be honest I started crying,” #Astros bench coach Omar Lopez said after being told his promotion. “I didn’t think this promotion was coming.”

Yall are crazy. If Altuve retires this second he's in the HOF. Maybe not first ballot, but the writers would have even less credibility than they already have if they don't vote him in. They would be grade A morons.

CF option for depth?

quote:

Aaron Hicks: By late May, it wasn’t clear how much longer Hicks would remain in the big leagues. He was released by the Yankees as he seemed en route to a third straight poor season. The Orioles somewhat surprisingly added him on a big league deal. From that point, the switch-hitting Hicks had a resurgence. He closed the year with a .275/.381/.425 slash over 236 plate appearances in Baltimore. Hicks walked at a massive 14.8% clip while striking out only 20.8% of the time. That won’t erase the memories of his struggles toward the end of his tenure in the Bronx, but it should land him a guaranteed MLB roster spot again. He’d be essentially a free pickup for whatever teams signs him. The Yankees are still on the hook for next year’s $9.5MM salary and a $1MM buyout on a 2025 option. A signing team would only pay Hicks at the $740K league minimum rate for whatever time he spends on the MLB roster, which would be subtracted from New York’s obligations.

Didn't realize Hicks would only cost the minimum. Yeah bring him in and let him play for us on the Yankees dime.

I think his Orioles numbers are probably optimistic but he's always gotten on base at a decent clip.

Looks like we will wait for deadline to add LH OFer/1B

Joc signed a 1 year deal with a mutual option with Dbacks

Seems like if we were overly concerned about it, we could have done that deal

I'd still go after Hicks for league minimum. He's preferable to Jake IMO. But apparently there's some thought within the organization that Loperfido or even Melton will be ready at some point this year.

Hicks would be a great addition in my opinion. Very low risk potential medium reward

I think Loperfido will be up this year but I’d be surprised if he starts the year in the majors. This gives you a bench option (or everyday guy because I agree I think he’s better than Jake) who can slot into the bench or a platoon spot if Loperfido establishes himself. Hicks has traditionally hit well from the RH side of the plate

It's the right approach. Throw Kenedy COVID-19 into the mix as well. Need the roster spot and at-bats free to see if these guys can play.

You give a-hole, east coast writers way too much credit. They will hold 2017 against every single Astro player for the rest of their careers...unless they leave and go play for the Yankees or Dodgers. Then it will magically disappears. Even through there is much proof that Altuve was completely against the whole thing, they will not vote for Altuve.
