We're apparently making a strong push to sign Josh Hader

Hmmm, makes some sense. Press has an option for next year at $14 mil but could obviously shed that if he's not the 9th inning guy.

Debating would I rather use that money to sign a couple of middle/bridge guys or just the 1 no doubter back of the bullpen finisher.

This one doesn't feel very real until pen meets paper. I do believe that Crane is willing to spend (5th highest payroll in the league) but seems like he's in favor of going over the tax at the deadline once we have a few months data on the team and where they need to add.

That's the kind of guy Crane is rightfully willing to go into tax territory to get.

I hope so. Whether they get Hader or not, I do think there's a big move or two coming. Standing pat doesn't really make any sense. Why pay $237 million for a flawed roster? He'd either start trading expensive players away or go for it, and he's never done the former.

As much as we joke about it Crane isn't cheap, he's staying under the tax so that when he does decide to make a splash he isn't a repeat offender. They'll easily get back under after Bregs leaves.

I love it when the perfect response to an absurd post is the first response.

ETA: 5 Deep, not saying your post was absurd. But the idea of Crane willing to pay market for Hader, is a bit absurd.

Neris is looking for $10Million/yr with multiple years.

How much will Hader cost?

Sure Jan. Just a little PR leak and when he signs somewhere else, Crane can cling to well we really tried but he ended up just outside of what we were willing to pay. Darnit!

Pay him $5Million per year for next 22 years and the remainder in year 24.

Agreed, especially when you consider we've got one or maybe two more runs at it in this era. Bregman and Altuve becoming free agents after this year and Framber/Tucker free agency after next year is probably the end of the era.

Might as well spend a few dollars now before you sell the team for parts and go back into tank mode.

Saw this statement in an article about Hader:
quote:

He was then shipped to the Milwaukee Brewers two years later for Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers.

If Crane signs him, the contract better come with a beat-down clause. He needs to take a couple of lumps just for being part of the trade that brought ratfink into the fold.

I'd love Hader, but he of course won't be cheap. Just have to decide if they wanna go all in with him or someone else.

The Dodgers did indeed show the way to make this work. Hader wants to be in Tejas with his old org. If Crane can do a deferred deal to avoid the tax, that would be kinda cool and stuff.
