The Astros will add another left-handed reliever to camp after signing veteran Neal Cotts to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Major League camp, manager A.J. Hinch said Friday morning. Cotts is expected in camp Saturday.
Cotts, 35, has spent 10 years in the Major Leagues with the White Sox, Cubs, Rangers, Twins and Brewers. He has 483 career appearances and has allowed 405 hits in 443 1/3 innings with a 3.96 ERA. He split last year between the Brewers and the Twins, appearing in 68 games.

Seriously, I know they want more left handed depth in the pen, but they seem to really be scraping the bottle of the barrel.
Unless they can some how Will Harris his arse.

Little things posted about Astros players today in one of my fantasy leagues:
Nothing we didn't know. Just re-reading the stat lines on those guys got me a little excited, so I thought I'd share
quote:
Musgrove is likely to begin 2016 in the rotation at Triple-A Fresno, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The Astros' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2015, Musgrove went a combined 12-1 with a 1.88 ERA between Low-A Quad Cities, High-A Lancaster and Double-A Corpus Christi. The 23-year-old right-hander simply dominated his competition with a 99:8 K:BB ratio over 100.2 innings last season. If his success carries over at Triple-A this season, he could be a mid-to-late season call up for the Astros.

White will get a good look in the Astros' first base competition this spring, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The former 33rd round pick of the 2013 draft will be competing with Jonathan Singleton, A.J. Reed and Matt Duffy, among others. "I'm not the showcase camp kind of guy," White said. "I didn't have, like, a great arm, couldn't run fast, didn't put on a show in BP or anything. I just always put up good numbers hitting." The 25-year-old is a career .311 hitter in 294 minor league games, with a career .422 OBP and 174:164 BB:K ratio. Given the quality of his competition during camp, however, White will need a standout performance to earn Houston's first base job out of spring training.

Yeah I really want a decent second lefty on the major league roster but having another Thatcher makes me nervous. The pickings were real slim in free agency. Sipp and Antonio Bastardo were BY FAR the best LH relief options and we got one of them. Oliver Perez got 2 years 7 mil
I'm sure we asked around trade wise and there just wasn't anything worth doing.

I'm still holding out hope that Kevin Chapman can be that piece.
He had a decent 2013 season, but wasn't really given much chance in 14-15. Hopefully he can wake up and stick this time.

Yeah that would be ideal. He definitely has potential

Rangers signed Desmond. Drellich immediately makes comments about how the Astros aren't aggressive pursuing free agents
Feliz is working as a starter this spring for #depth

Now we missed a golden opportunity to market Astro the dog because we weren't aggressive enough to spend $217 million on David Price. This guy

Wait...we missed out on a golden opportunity to market a dog?
Crane obviously has no interest in winning.

I'm trying to figure out the new MLB.tv rules and if there's a way that I can watch the Astros this year. Have any of ya'll looked into it and deciphered all the bullshite? From what I've gathered, it doesn't look like my fortunes have changed. I've got Dish Network and since ROOT is DirecTV owned, it doesn't look like Dish is in any way eager to put money in DirecTV's pockets.
Theres the $85 single team package but you're only able to subscribe for out of market teams (meaning any team but the Astros and Rangers for my area).
Then theres the $110 full league package but that still only lets you watch out of market broadcasts and then blacks out the other teams broadcast so I couldn't buy the full mlb.tv package and just watch the broadcast of whatever team the Astros are playing.
I was hoping the new rules would help me out as far as getting to watch the games but if I interpreted everything right, I'll be stuck watching low quality stream sites plagued with ads for a 3rd season in a row.
One good thing I did find is that MLB and Fox agreed to in-market streaming in 2016 for the Fox Sports Regional channels with a TV provider subscription. ROOT and CSN are to be available by the start of 2017. So if you have a cable or satellite provider (that carries ROOT
) you can watch games on your computer, phone or tablet.

Just switch to DirecTV.
In the end, it'd be worth it.
I know thats easy for me to say because, I don't know your preferences and/or situation. But Directv has soo many more options and better customer service. I'm pretty sure if you switch, you'd get the MLB package for free this year too.
I want to say that you'd get a choice between that and the NFL Ticket for free.
It's a 2 year comtract. I've had directtv for 6 years now.

I get around the blackout by streaming through my xbox 1.

where do you live? do you not get Fox?

MLB.com comes out with our top 30 prospect rankings today unless they have us in the top 10.

Get the full package and then spend 28 bucks for 6 months of Unlocator.
It is a vpn service that changes your location so you can get around the blackouts. It gets great reviews.
If you have an apple tv, theh even have directions on their website on how to set it up through that so you could stream your games with the MLB TV app.
This is the route I'm taking.

Had no idea Matt Dominguez signed with Toronto. Hes starting today at 3B and batting 5th. You know, giving Donaldson some competition
1st "game" of the season for me! That's what happens when you're off a week and you're hard up for baseball.
college game doesn't do it for me.
I'm sure one of the Phillies pitchers that came from the Astros will be on the bump at some point today.
