If Marisnick can improve offensively

That's the thing, he's going to need to improve his contact. Whiffs on a lot of fastballs. Gomez isn't some bastion of plate discipline and contact, but he is certainly better offensively despite being a similarly styled player. We also have enough sample size to say he's a borderline All-star when healthy. He's a veteran bat, "plus" CF, and he provides a spark to the team. It's tough to say whether or not Marisnick can get markedly better since he'll be 25 by Opening Day. I kind of like him in his current role personally.

We need to cut down on the number of players with the "swing as hard as you can in case you hit it" philosophy at the plate in any count.

The bullpen is the main thing, though. It quite literally cost us the division title and the ALDS. I agree with those who have said that we need a few power arms out there.

I wouldn't be upset at all if we stood pat on starting pitching.

I'm just saying when you look at his contract and look at the teams needs, I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved, that's all. I'm not advocating that he NEEDS to be moved like some of y'all are thinking I'm saying.

I'm right there with you. Gomez offers the biggest trade value while having the least amount of net loss.

Marisnick won't bring much on the trade market. Yet having him in the lineup instead of Gonez is not a significant drop off. And in my opinion, I think Singleton plays better when Marisnick is in center.

Short answer... Luhnow can't keep everybody AND make changes. Somebody has to go. Looking at Luhnows approach so far, Gomez offers the most value to the organization as a trade piece.

I see Daz and baby Tuck as 2018 arrivals unless they go full Correa in the minors

I echo the agreement. Reed, White and Moran are the types to balance the lineup.

econd half of season stats comparison:

Gomez

Marisnick

Yeah, but one of those players put up those shitty stats while being 100% healthy. Gomez had injury concerns when we traded for him then battled through the oblique injury down the stretch and was still pretty decent in the playoffs. Saying Marisnick isn't a big drop off from Gomez is pretty laughable at this point. A healthy Marisnick is comparable to a 75% Gomez.

Astros are postponing renovations to Tal's Hill.

Hmm...I wonder if this is an actual baseball decision more than a safe business delay. Making the park more hitter friendly may not be in the best interests of the offseason plans (TTO unloading).

The team said the Astros' playoff run narrowed the timetable to finish.

So Tal's Hill will live for at least another 10 years?

Y'all are still missing the premise of my whole point. I'm not arguing that Marisnick is better or worse than Gomez, I'm saying is that the drop off between the two is not that significant and the thing everyone is missing is that this was Marisnick's first complete season in the bigs and will be 25 years old (he will get better at the plate), while Gomez will be 30 and has battled injuries.

My whole point is that I would not be shocked to see him traded for a top of the line closer because he has a very trade friendly contract and could be the key piece in a trade to bring in that closer.

If I'm wrong and Gomez is still here next season then absolutely he should start over Marisnick. I never said I think Gomez is a bad player.

ETA: Floating Change Up is picking up exactly what I'm saying, thank you.

Great year, and a hell of a lot of fun following the Stros. That moment in game 4 win Correa and Rasmus homered, I thought we were headed to the ALCS. Then I realized we had several more innings left, and sure enough the Royals rattle off 5 singles in a row. Once we lost at home I knew our chances away, were slim.
My thoughts on this team.
Coach-Great job, but imo needs more small ball, and don't go to the bullpen so quick.
SP-are fine, leave alone.
Get a couple of set up men, that can get somebody out. Keep everybody else and lets do this again next year.

AJ and Luhnow press conference, they said AJ Reed will definitely have a shot to make the team next year (I'm assuming out of spring training)

Well damn. I'm not for renovation just for renovation sake but I was looking forward to something fresh at MMP. Every now and then you've got to mix some things up and throw in something new.

Would be nice to have a Schwarber type effect on the team.

I like Schwarber more than I do Bryant. Dude is a beast
