At this point, it's easier for fans and players alike to say the Astros cheated them than to own the failures of their team. Fans are whatever, not a particularly level headed bunch. Who cares. But like Tepera, it was the Astros cheating at home..that's why they lost 2 games. Same with the Yankees, it was the Astros wearing buzzers. Not the walk to Springer or the shitty slider Chapman threw Altuve.

That's the shite I'm most sick of. Accept that you lost. Own your failures. Accept that you weren't good enough to win. It's complete egotistical bullshite to still be blaming every one of your losses to the Astros on a cheating scandal that happened 4 years ago.

So I'm a casual fan at best, but what's the argument against the Astros paying Correa? Just his injury history? Or is the team being cheap?

Both. Astros have a high payroll as it is, and Crane has always maintained he wants to spend like the Cardinals. Granted that mightve been related to Jeff Luhnow being from the Cardinals. The Astros are kind of in a weird market.

The good news is $60million+ comes off the books after this season.

He's likely looking for a minimum of 10 years $300 million. Lindor money (341) is what's been mentioned. Astros probably can't do that. Our owner has given out 2 $100 million contracts to Altuve and Bregman. Both at 5 years. Correa has a significant injury history and hadn't been able to stay in the lineup up till this year. That was a concern at the price he wants.

Correa’s CAREER BEST from his 7 year stint in Houston is: 153 games played, 26 HR, 96 RBIs, hit .315 once with .279 his next best year

Very true... but shite everything and everyone was juiced back then.

ETA: A-Rod had a 138 OPS+ in Seattle before his huge deal, Correa has a 127 OPS+ so far. That's not a massive difference. Games played though...

Even defensively, Correa is good, but he’s not a gold glove type player

Very untrue. He just led ALL of MLB in dWAR.

Siri is just along for the ride having the time of his life. I seriously love this guy. He's the first out of the dugout to greet his teammates after a big play, cheering for everybody.

I’m really worried about the Lance news. Kind of puts a damper on the celebrations. We don’t stand a chance without him near 100%

how many gold gloves does CC have??

He’s a good defender with a GREAT arm, but if he were a top SS in the league, he’d have a GG or 2. He likely gets one this year, but I don’t think he’s all time defender or he’d have more hardware by now. He’s been great in a contract year, hard to expect his stats to stay at this level once he gets paid yuge money.

I'd rather have the stats on my team than the hardware... but he really probably should have a GG or two.

I’ve always thought you offer 8 years at an AAV up there with the top SS’s. I think he’s worth that. If somebody else wants to pony up 10 years or more, you thank him for his time and congratulate him on getting his money.

perhaps.... but the *really should* is kinda hollow. Everyone thinks their guy should get it, but only 1 guy does

I think between CC’s injury history, the astro’s ability to slide bregman over from 3rd, and carlos’ lack of top flight numbers— he hit 26 HR, 96 RBIs, .279 BA— don’t demand a top top flight contract

I mean, it’s not my money. It doesn’t really affect me one way or the other. I just don’t think Carlos is worth elite money bc he hasn’t been an elite producer. I like Carlos. I’m sure it seems as if I don’t like him at all, which isn’t the case. But a $300M investment in one player can really hamstring a franchise. We’re in the middle of the Astros glory days. I don’t want it to end bc we got sloppy and gave out contracts to people who couldn’t earn them

Well this is the second time he has led all SS in dWAR... was also 6th in MLB one year but unfortunately behind two other shortstops. So, he really should have one already and about to be two. But, voters gonna vote so we'll see.

Who are the shortstops that are going to be available?

Story
Baez
Semien
Correa
Seager
Turner

Just an absolutely disgusting FA class at one position. Imagine if Lindor was going to hit the market as well.

And here's what the payrolls are going to look like going into FA.

I feel like Correa, Semien, and Seager are a step up from Baez and Story.

Turner next year as well.
