You have six starting pitchers and a long reliever on the roster for this series. You’re going to use four starters so the other two guys can eat some innings. If Verlander doesn’t have it, and that was obvious as early as the first inning and as late as the second inning, you have someone ready to warm.
Two of Garcia, Urquidy and Javier, are not going to get a start. So if someone struggles, you might as well use them. Otherwise, they’re wasted roster spots.

He cruised in the third inning and got two quick outs in the fourth so it looked like he was settling in…then they rattled off 4 straight hits. They clearly are on a heater as everything is finding holes (see last gane against blue jays) but that’s going to normalize in a five game series. This isn’t a must win game.
