Maybe the Ghost of Austin Pruitt can fill that roster spot. Luhnow's last gasp.

Honestly, we may be forced to sign a warm body from whatever is left. We've got to replace a solid major league pitcher and considerable innings with...someone

We don't have much experienced depth internally

Abreu
Bielak
Whitley
Luis Garcia
Tyler Ivey
Nivaldo Rodriguez

Those are 40 man options with either minimal experience or prospect status. Whitley has got a chance to earn a spot here but I don't have much faith.

Jake Odorizzi is still out there but probably more expensive than we can afford. Brad Peacock is still out there if he's not injured.

Abreau may be only realistic hope.

The initial recommendation for top young Astros SP Framber Valdez is for surgery to repair his fractured ring finger, and the early belief is that could mean he’d miss the 2021 season, as I just said on @MLBNetwork . But the team is getting 2nd opinions before commenting further.

-Heyman

I’m not a doctor but missing 7 months for a broken finger+surgery seems wild

Yea that's a real head scratcher. I was thinking two months at tops.

Month to heal from surgery and a month maybe month and a half to start throwing again to start facing live batters? Hopefully the 2nd opinions come back a little easier to swallow

How does surgery on a ring finger cause one to miss a 6 month long season? Seems odd

Especially considering he pitched another inning after it happened

Yeah I figured he’d be out like 3 maybe 4 months tops just looking at last similar injuries. This would be devastating

Yep, tomorrow they’ll tell us he’ll only miss a week.

In other news, the JBJ speculation can officially end.

Speak of the devil...

@JonHeyman
Astros are among teams looking at Jake Odorizzi — not a surprise since Framber Valdez will miss significant time (as much of the year) after suffering a broken finger. At least a few teams are involved and Houston may have luxury tax considerations (they’re about $13M under now).

Heyman holding the line on that season long timeframe

I think he’s full of shite on both reports, the Valdez thing and us looking at Odorizzi

If you're desperate for Astros baseball, here's a static video from 22 rows behind home plate with the Marlins radio broadcast overlaid. like i said, I'd you're desperate.

Otherwise Sunday's game against the Cardinals will be on the cards network.

Straw haa tripled today after a double yesterday. Hes off to a hot start.
