Is that from that shitty thread? I kind of feel bad for the guy. Thought he saw something others didn't and wanted to go out on a limb, proceeds to get absolutely destroyed week after week.

Just seems like that's another way to say that kershaw gets more strikeouts to me. If it wasn't kershaw, there is no way anyone is having this discussion IMO

Disagree. Corey Kluber, pretty much a no name coming into the year last year, beat out Felix for the Cy Young last year dispite a .30 ERA higher due to slightly better fielding independent numbers. Voter are more sophisticated now than ever.

If season ended today I'm pretty damn confident Greinke wins NL.
AL is a little bit harder to choose from. I'm an Astros fan but if I had to guess who ends up winning I'd probably put money on Sonny

Greinke and Sale have been the best pitchers in their leagues over the course of the year
Watch out for the guys gaining steam late: Kershaw, obviously. Has a stretch of 8 IP and 1 ER or less in 5 of last 6 starts, I believe. He had that rough patch but has been out of this world since. In the AL, I could see David Price being sneaky considering the current Blue Jay hype machine. Not to mention he's been a beast all year

Why should Kershaw win?
Greinke has a much lower ERA and they've pitched basically the same amount of innings.
It's Greinke and it's not close, for me.

Nope........ Winning the Cy young award does't mean shite compared to winning it 25-30 years ago. The game has changed and the pitching in todays game is crap... Starters going 5 innings and getting pulled is bullshite... Hell last night Don should not have pulled Kershaw. He was doing fine and the Dodgers ended up losing.... Managers are pussies nowdays with their starters........

Meh. Zack's ERA is like 0.75 points lower. That's a low. I just have a hard time believing those numbers account for that much of a gap. Although, I know many think FIP is a better determining factor than ERA.
All these metrics seem to be overanalyzing it for me. Zack lets less guys on base, and he lets less guys score. That's the goal, right? I understand the point of the metrics, but Greinke is getting better results.
Obviously, wins should be irrelevant in this discussion, but I'm sure there's a few old school voters left who look at wins. I think Greinke would win pretty handily if the season ended today.

Can the Dodgers just not hit the ball? They're a combined 23-8 when Kershaw and Greinke pitch, with 17 no decisions between them. What the hell.

Kershaw leads all pitchers in Fangraphs WAR. He has a lower FIP and xFIP than deGrom and a better K-BB%. He has pitched 15 more innings as well.
I think you can make a case for deGrom over Kershaw for second. I just can't see a case for him as Cy. From a strictly runs allowed perspective, Greinke is Cy (deGrom is 2). From a fielding independent perspective, Kershaw is Cy. I can't see any perspective where deGrom is the Cy.
