I agree with your list but would argue that Halliday is also a first ballot lock. Exceptional numbers with perennial also-ran Toronto, goes to Philly and keeps on being MLB's current top ace.

King Felix gets hurt by being with the M's but if he keeps putting up Cy Young numbers he could go first ballot; going to another team may help him more (see Halliday, Roy).

Someone suggested Thome as a first ballot due to his HR numbers and lack of steroid talk around him, good argument made.

I agree he's a hall lock, but when I think of 1st ballot, I think of player's who were the best for a period of time. Jeter has been good, but I'd never say he was clearly the best at his position at any time.

Tulowitzki is another young guy who will put up crazy numbers for a shortstop if he stays healthy.

Jeter is the definition of the type of guy who gets 95+ percent of the vote the first time around. The HOF voters are strange as hell, but I think they will love Jeter like they loved Seaver and Ripken.

he is a sure HOF player, just NOT 1st ballot.

Vlad will retire being a career .300 hitter, with 500 HRs, (assuming he plays 2 more years), and 1600+ RBI

He will retire north of 2,800 career hits

He has a MVP Award

Finished in the Top 5 in MVP voting 4 times and in the Top 10 6 times

Is a 9 time All-Star

Has 8 Sliver Slugger Awards

Has led the AL in Hits and Runs

Has four 200 hits seasons

Has two 30/30 seasons

Led the league in Intentional Walks 5 times and currently ranks 4th all-time

And one of the best right field arms of all time

And one of the best bad ball hitters of all time

Jeter will reach 3000 hits... he is 100% in on first ballot especially since he hasn't made an enemy with the media who votes for him.

He is the CAPTAIN if the yanks and has stayed with them for 16 years. He will have 3,000 + hits.THAT is a MUCH more impressive stat than 500 hr's. And he has been CLUTCH his entire career. HE IS A LOCK 1st ballot. PLUS he is squaeky clean as far as image. Like it or not that means a shitload to the voters nowadays.

Yeah but PJ is right. The HOF voters have an extremely high standard for 1st ballot guys. Either the player has to be an inner circle, slam dunk choice or extremely popular and famous like a Jeter, Ripken, Puckett. Hell, Jeff freaking Bagwell didn't get in on the first ballot. It's really hard to get in on the first try.

He's the face of baseball, so I think that will push him over the top.

Vlads #'s are awesome. I won't argue that. But you have a great point with the popularity issue.

Vlad and Chipper have current similar numbers... the difference is Chipper has been the face of the Braves for a long time now... Vlad played for the Expos and then the Angels for awhile.

I think that is what is gonna put Chipper ahead of Vlad. Of course Vlad is only 36 and Chipper is 39 so Vlad has more time to add to his numbers.

Another thing that obviously benefits Chipper is how people always talk about how great of a switch hitter he is. Chipper was obviously a superstar, but he also benefitted from being a legend in the South, while Vlad is just a stud ballplayer that is maybe underappreciated to the casual fan.

Both get in, but Chipper makes it quicker.

If thome doesn't get in first ballot it will be a travesty. Unless something goes wrong, he will hit more than 600 home runs. And he did it never really being mentioned as a steroid user. Not saying he didn't use, but I never hear his name lumped with others.
