- 8 teams
- 5 conf champs
- 3 at large (highest ranked in BCS outside of conf champs)
- Seeded by BCS rankings
- Top 4 play home games on NYE/NYD to cut back on fan cost and travel
- Semifinal and final remain as they are now, with rotating bowls and championship location
Would take 3 weeks starting NYE and would keep the rest of the bowls in-tact for the most part.
Would put a huge emphasis on being top 4 as the home field advantage is enormous in college.

It could be done, and would be a huge improvement to the postseason, in my opinion.
Each P5 is paired with a G5. Remove divisions. Top two play for the conference championship. P5 champs go to the playoff. G5 champs move up. We can still have a BCS type system select 1 or 3 at large teams, then play a 6 organization 8 team playoff.
You also have a game between the bottom two of each P5 conference. Loser drops down to their G5 then next season.
Let's make it happen.

1) Reinstate BCS formula
2) expand playoff to 16 teams with top 16 BCS teams in (this should guarantee that all P5 champions will get in [if not, there needs to be a rule that the P5 champs get an autobid, but are seeded according to BCS formula])
3) top 4 get 1st round bye into semis
4) the 4 quarterfinal games, and the two semis, will be comprised of: Orange, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Cotton and Peach
5) NC game will be stand alone

There are 130 D1 football teams going for 1 championship, and UCF proved that unless you are in a P5 conference, you have no shot at being in this new playoff. So, here is my format for college football.. not just playoffs
Power 5 conferences get 12 teams. That is 60 teams competing with a 8 team playoff. (5 champs, 3 at large) BCS type computer to rank 1-5, 6-8. Number 1 plays number 8. No conference Champ games. You play 11 conference games, 1 game from the next level of D1 teams at home(money for smaller schools to keep program going basically), and 1 out of conference game from P5 scheduled in two game packs as home and home or 1 neutral site package. This is 13 games before playoffs
Other D1 conferences forms another division. 70 teams.
14 teams in conference. 8 team playoff. (5 Champs, 3 at large) BCS type computer to rank 1-5, 6-8. Number 1 plays number 8. Two divisions each conference. You play your 6 division foes, 2 other division one being home and one away, 1 P5 school for money (away), 3 out of conference foes. 1 Conference tournament games. (1v1 for title, 2v2 3v3 4v4, etc). This gives everyone 13 games here.
Why 13 games before playoffs? because to win the champion in mos high school football leagues, you play 15 games. 10 plus playoffs. So to win the championship for college... you play 16. And you do not get a month between last game and playoffs to get rusty or healthy.
All teams with 7 wins on both levels play in bowl games.
All playoff games on both levels called a bowl.
(So P5 playoffs: Sugar, Rose, Peach, Fiesta. Then Orange and Cotton for semi's, and P5 Championship as stand alone at a stadium site secured for many years like Omaha in baseball)
D1 other playoffs: Citrus, Taxslayer, Music, Something in Cali. Next round: Indy and heart of dallas, and championship stand alone also at a site secured for it long term.
I know it's very long. TL:DR

Based on the "eye" test. All of those G5 teams should have been ranked much higher.

It is really sad the UCF wouldn't of even been in the playoffs if it was eight teams. Huge reason I feel the system is sucky.

Ties were stupid, teams would play for the tie, rather than take any risks to lose. You would have teams run, play safe, and punt to each other, with 5+ minutes in game.
It worked for Ara Parsegian.

I think 8 teams is going to make the problem of choosing the CCG loser or a team that sat out that week even more pronounced. Once you go to 8, you may as well just go to 16, do the Death to the BCS thing and let everyone have a chance.

Did I not do this the last 3 or 4 eeeks and people were screaming not needed dumb Thread etc?
I used 4 differing bracket possibilities

Dude, it's never going to stop. Similarly, I thought Bama winning convincingly last night would shut down a lot of the vitriol about them getting in the playoff. Instead, it seems to have made everyone even more rustled because they may win the whole enchilada again without an SEC title.

I don’t think they deserved in by rules we were told when it started. But my issue is with Hocutt not Alabama. They did what was asked of them yesterday.
To me in NCAA football you can’t be a NC without a division or conference title

8 Team playoff
5 P5 champs auto bid--seeded through whatever method you want--computer/poll/etc
ANY undefeated G5 team is automatically entered--again seeded however you want--P5 teams have no right to bitch as they knew what they had to do to get in and failed
--in the likely event that there aren't 3 undefeated G5 teams the rest of the bracket is filled by at large selections either made by computer ranking or poll
I just don't see any negatives to this

How are conference champions determined?
What if there are four G5 champions?

I'd go back to the BCS. Let computers and strength of schedule have a greater say. I wouldn't let a committee decide the 50th best team, much less the top 2 or 4.
Posted on 1/2/18 at 8:40 pm to Golfer
In golfers excellent model there are 11 games. With conf champ game and two or 3 rounds. That's enough.
Teams with no pretence to championship may play two extra money games. 1 g5. 1 fcs
And let the computer programmers count margin of victory how they please.

You can't prevent 2 or 3 teams from same conf.
Sometimes Bama will lose to aubie or Lsu and still be 11-1.
All 3 could be 11-1 and way better than 2 loss usc.

Of course not. It's the best idea, and that never wins out.
