If you could create a bowl game, what city, what sponsor and what two conferences do you go with?

Houston is the city - there’s only 1 bowl game in the country’s 4th largest city. This is just not acceptable.

Big12 vs ACC - two P5 leagues with large fan bases in the state. With the addition of the former Pac12 teams, Houston is a great neutral location between the two leagues footprints. If these two leagues don’t work then you could always go with Sunbelt vs C USA

Shell Energy Stadium - perfect site. You don’t need a massive stadium like NRG. This stadium holds 22K. This would be enough. Awesome location in downtown. This is the home to the Houston Dynamo soccer and Texas Southern football. So a FB game can definitely be done.

Call it the “Shell Energy Bowl”

You also need one larger than 22K.

Only problem is all of the warm-weather places have at least one bowl game currently. Indianapolis and Minneapolis have domes that would be good for a game, but a bowl trip is about more than the game. Indianapolis or Minneapolis in December or January aren't that appealing, unless you want to go ice fishing in Minnesota.

Not saying there shouldn't be more bowl games because more college football is always great. But there aren't a lot of places left for bowls.

Why?

Most bowls have less than 22k attendance including some new years day bowls

Have you seen the attendance for these lower tier bowl games? The stadiums are empty. 22K is more than enough for two 6-6 teams especially if it’s G5 teams.

Better yet make it Sun Belt vs Big12. I can’t imagine Texas State vs Arizona State needing more than 22K around Christmas time.

Houston weather can be really nice in late December. It can also be chilly but not miserable. This year it would have been perfect.

DFW has 4 bowl games. Houston has 1. Considering the weather and population on top of all the things to do and see, Houston can certainly support 1 more low tier bowl game.

I was with you until this part. Be realistic here. That won’t happen.

Give me a bowl in Salt Lake City in late December for early parts of ski season. Utah’s stadium can host it and it can be sponsored by Vail Resorts or something. I’d say Mountain West vs. Big 12 or Big 10 would make sense

Austin should have one in DKR. It’s gotta be the largest warm weather city without one and it’s an actual tourist destination unlike half the places that have one

yeah not like we have enough bland soulles corporate sponsor bowls as it is right?

Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Peach, Orange, Citrus, Holiday, etc....these are/were all great because they stood on their own merit and didn't need some corporation name slapped on the front end. Even when some of them did get sponsors thrown in front it didn't matter, or peopel didn't use it anyway.

Bluebonnet Bowl was the old Houston Bowl name. Wish they would bring it back even with a corporate sponsor on the front end

Speaking of lower tier bowls and bad attendance, at what point do they basically start giving away tickets? Thinking of taking my kids to the Birmingham Bowl since Troy is playing in it, and everything online is still full price as of today. I'm sort of holding out on the weather, and also would be taking my youngest so I didn't want to buy 4-6 tickets in advance and end up not being able to go.
