Can thank Spencer Haywood for that bubba

CSB of the day:

I went to grade school with Spencer Haywood's daughter (she was tall btw). He came in to speak to our class one day. I was in 5th grade. Had no idea who he was. He said he played in the NBA (I was, and still am, a big basketball fan) and showed us a card that had him, Kareem, and Wilt on it. I was blown away by that, and kept saying "That's Kareem and Wilt!", and he was slightly offended and kept saying "And me too!"

Jordan literally quit basketball at one point when the going got tough

The league made him take a break after what happened to his dad because of his notorious gambling habits. They were trying to save face because MJ was THE face of American pro sports and frankly is the reason the NBA is what it is today above anyone else. Lebron has carried the torch, but folks acting like what he is doing is unprecedented need their head examined or a history lesson

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how bad the East has been since Lebron came into the league. Remember, the West was not the dominant conference it has perennially been back when Jordan was around. Lebron and his slew of stars would have had a tough time with how much more physical the game was back then.

I'm sure someone who is 6'8 260 and has never been injured would really struggle in a physical league

It's a different (edit) *LEAGUE* now. That's a fact. Jordan's game transcended generations just like Lebron's does.

I don't want to say who is better because they are different players with different strengths IMO, but for anyone to unequivocally say Lebron is a better basketball player is just misinformed.

Since everyone wants to keep bringing up total Finals appearances, the context of the point is from a team standpoint and not just Lebron, especially how the Heat and Cavs teams have had much easier conference paths compared to what the Bulls had and other East teams had back in the 80s and 90s.

I'm just glad I'm old enough to have watched M.J., Olajuwon, Malone, and Reggie Miller.

The older guys were finishing up and still in the forefront of tv and highlights. Magic, Byrd, Isaiah Thomas, etc...

It doesn't matter who's better b/c they'll never play. Like most have said on this board they aren't the same type of player. Kobe was more MJ, and Labron is a way more athletic version of Magic.

Lebron may be the single most well equipped NBA player to have played in the physical 80s and 90s, what are you talking about?

Doubtful.

So debunk this, LeBron worshippers: MJ has TWO 3-peats, Bron has zero.

Next.

Disingenuous, he obviously wasn't all of fame caliber when he played with LeBron.

Deosn't change the fact that Lebron missed the shot, then Allen gets it and hits a 3 to tie the game, that they go on to win. He misses that 3, Spurs win Game 6, and the Finals.

He may have had an easier path to get there, but LeBron's Finals opponents have been much tougher than Jordan's. The 2015-2017 Warriors and the 2013-2014 Spurs are better than anyone Jordan faced, including the Stockton/Malone Jazz teams.

LeBron is bigger, stronger, and faster. He'd have THRIVED in the physicality of the 90s.

Nope. James is the better individual player. That's not even necessarily a knock on Jordan, either. I feel like MJ of James fans take this shite too personally. I'm not a fan of either player. But I can observe which is the better player.

Now if we're talking LEGACIES, MJ's will never be touched. That's a different discussion though.

This close-mindedness and stubbornness is all I need to see, thank you for showing your hand and proving you aren't objective when it comes to this assessment. I've seen basically every stat and basically every highlight of both players throughout their storied careers, I acknowledge their differences in terms of height and build, I also acknowledge that LeBron is capable of playing all 5 positions at an elite level which Michael clearly is not and LeBron's evolved as a player and shooter as his career has progressed becoming a legendary Swiss Army knife of basketball, only two other players I've ever seen/heard about are capable of doing that: Larry Bird and Kevin Durant. I'm not trying to minimize Michael as a player because I know what he represents as a basketball player and elite player but LeBron is just more versatile as a player and just so damn physical as well, maybe the greatest talent we've ever seen play the game and I'll take that to the bank.

Hmm, seems like once Bron got into the GOAT discussion folks annointed him almost immediately. That can't have anything do with him still playing and being an elite player while MJ is on the sidelines, right?

For what athleticism and overall versatility MJ lacked compared to Bron, he more than made up for with intangibles and simply being a better pure basketball player. MJ had all the tools offensively and was an elite defender as well and most importantly a better leader especially in crunch time.

My opinion may change, so don't assume I'm that stubborn, but I've seen enough of both to know LeBron James is not a better ball player at this point.

I crunched the numbers a year ago

It game out, that on average, jordans opponents on the way to the finals had an average record of 50-32, and Lebrons was 49-33

Maybe, maybe not, but i hear ya. Regardless, Bron was playing on a significantly weaker team only in '07 when he was probably at his best. The Warriors are the most similar to the Bulls dynasties that I can remember. I think had the Rockets-Bulls matchup(s) happened, your point might have less weight, but then again, Chicago could have lost both of those based on how they fared in regular season matchups.
