Rio seems to be in the mix....

What is LA's mass transit system like...this isnt the 60's anymore?

They definitely have the stadiums already in place...some need to be modernized.

Something like Atlantic Station would be appropriate at the Astro World site I think.

Actually we're both wrong...

I live right close to Reliant, so I just assumed all the cars were going to the Astrodome. They actually play at Reliant Arena.

How the frick did this thread go 5 pages?

1 post reply was all that was needed. It should have intricately read:

No.

I didn't take the time to read the thread, but if there is really anybody that thinks the city can turn around AND the IOC will still want it in the south needs to be kicked in the balls so that they cannot reproduce more idiocy in the world.

Is the city of Houston re-urbanizing like ATL is in the process of doing? I mean, it is spread out as far as it can get I would think.

Yeah... as a result of all the condos/town homes being built, rising gas prices, and influx of young entrepeneurs.

I thought there was a So Am city in there, couldn't think of which one.

2016 will be somewhere in the "New" World.

not good, I don't think they were even trying, I just think that is one of the few cities in the US that could handle it now. They had problems with Athens not being big enough.

The SF bay area was bidding at one point, they would need a new FB staduim for the track and ceremonies.

I have spent weeks in Rio...I am not diminishing a great city full of culture, etc, but there are some areas that I went to that make the 9th Ward look safe...I am not joking or exagerating either...I saw genades and AK fire about 5-10 minutes from Ipanema and Copacabana.

I went to the Maracana too...it needs a TON of work to host the ceremonies.

If they get it, it will be solely because no games have ever been hosted in SA.

Toronto would be interesting. I just think Chi-town is due.

Re-urbanization will be the storyline for any major American city over the next 40-50 years...it will be interesting to see what cities get on board quickly.

ATL has...and NOLA is showing signs with the Warehouse District, etc. We have to though...we have nowhere to expand. I think our incompetency may be trumped by our natural environment forcing us to accept this fact and hopefully we start consolidating toward downtown/uptown.

NOLA hosting the Olympics.
Yay, but can this Phelps guy swim across the Mississippi?
Cycling through uptown, any pot holes to that idea?
Shooting, we have plenty who would like to play for keeps?
Beach vollyball would be kinda like Saints tailgating, you can do it but it's not like the real thing.

part of the problem with NOLA is none of the neighboring parishes want anything to do with NO, they don't consider themselves part of the city, it's a eye for an eye situation, when if they banded together it would be a win, win situation for everyone involved.

I don't know when the IOC announces it, but I think Rio gets it. Not saying that they deserve it more than Chicago or Toronto, but I think the fact that South America has never hosted will be the overriding factor.

It seems like DC could put in a good bid too...and use Baltimore for what they dont have.

the rumor is that Dan Snyder (owner of the Redskins) wants to build a dome in the District and then keep all of the other stadiums for an Olympic bid... I've been hearing this for about 2 years now, so we'll see if it actually goes anywhere. If the Skins build a dome they can host the Superbowl too, so I'm sure its definitely a consideration on their part.

Personally I think it would be awesome if DC got the Olympics, but traffic would be 5000000 times worse than it already is

Still sucks but better than it was. They're putting in a tram line from USC/Colliseum to west LA/Santa Monica area so that would be huge if LA ever gets another olypmics because it would undoubtedly be in the Coliseum

Actually, DC would have to place bid to selcted by the USOC to be considered...and if choosen, then they go against the international bids (ie, Rio, Toronto)...Chicago was choosen by the USOC.

Maybe DC will go after the bid for next go around.
