BR will host the olympics before NOLA does

Congratulations...you are officially the biggest idiot on this board.

I am not saying we would ever have a chance...if we ever did, it was 60 years ago. However, reading this thread is laughable. New Orleans is a world class city that hosts huge conventions, the 2nd most Superbowls, Final Fours, National Championships, NBA All Star Games with ease.
You people calling us a shithole, etc. are showing you envy and jealously and not your intelligence.

Chicago/NYC will be our next Summer Games...maybe LA.

Houston would have a much better shot than NOLA.

2 state of the art retractable roofs: Minute Maid Park and Reliant Stadium

1 large domed stadium: Astrodome

2 large basketball arenas: Toyota Center and Lakewood Church

1 large football stadium: Rice Stadium (74,000 capacity)

Other venues: U of H football stadium and baseball field... Rice's Reckling Park

all of which pale in size to the Olympics, which stretch out over 2 weeks, not 1 game. There is also the not so small matter of facilities. The Dome is fine for a SB, Sugar Bowl, etc, but track and field needs an outdoor stadium, Tad Gormley is no Olympic caliber. The NO Arena would work for BB or gymnastics, but most olmpics have seperate venues for both. Then you'd have to build a swimming facility. Where the hell is that going to go?

Bro, I'm from NOLA, I know what its like, I glad you are happy there, I love to visit a couple of times a year, but it is a shithole. I think I can safely speak for most of Houston when I say we are not in least bit envious or jealous toward NOLA and your fantastic government, higher crime, shittier schools and lousy infrastructure.

I agree....but I was just pointing out the idiocy of someone from BR or Lake Charles trying to say that they have a better chance than NOLA or that NOLA is a shithole.

"Show me your tits?!?" I mean really has this guy even been to New Orleans...I am guessing that if he has he went to eat at Bubba Gump and Hard Rock and proceeded straight to Bourbon to watch tourists lift their shirts.

I think Chicago's weather would get the nod over Houston...also they are in no shortage of stadiums either.

Houston's weather is not that dissimilar to Beijing at this time of the year. Also, Houston has a good bit less pollution. How many large domed stadiums does Chicago have? None.

Bro, I never said we have a shot...I understand the Olympics are huge. But someone from BR or anywhere in LA downing New Orleans every chance they get is ignorant.

There is a good reason why the NBA and the NFL have not looked into franchises in BR...for Christ sake it doesn't even have a AAA Baseball team or an Arena league team (NOLA has both).

As for Houston, I have never visited a more boring city for its size.
The place has zero, history or authenticity. I get the upside to living there...I would be making double what I make here and be living in a huge mansion. However, personally I would not trade what I have here, but I don't fault those that do. However, sitting on a pedestal and calling other city shitholes when you live in BR is ridiculous and illiterate IMO. This same douche, VanillaBear MD, that argued that BR was better than NYC in another thread.

Houston has a long way to go before an Olympics...as someone said...the committee sees ATL and Houston as the same area...I really see Chicago getting it soon.

Stagg, Houston has a chance...but I just don't see it...maybe I am wrong...I wouldn't mind it because I could just drive there to see the games, but for things to do and having an international reputation, I think Chicago has its perks as well.

Ahh yes, judging a whole city by what you hear from a dumbass tourist.

ACTUALLY, I've held up signs during Mardi Gras that say "Show your tits" when I was a lot younger, and I have also been accosted by the "Where you got your shoes?" guys, not to mention foiled their attempts to harass tourists from out-of-state.

New Orleans is a shithole.

I agree... but you have to have the events somewhere. Houston has the advantage of having all the major arenas within about 4 to 5 miles of each other and situated on a mass transit railway.

I agree...let me be clear...I think Houston has the potential to host (the Astrodome needs some serious work though in that plan)....

On a side note, Stagg, what are the plans for the former Six Flags area...it must have cost a fortune to buy that. Who did? What is planned?

I am trying to think...Chicago has two baseball fields, Soldier Field, and the basketball arena...it has potential...what would they need a domes stadium for?

It seems like DC could put in a good bid too...and use Baltimore for what they dont have.

They still have RFK, Fed Ex, the basketball arena in Chinatown, where the Nationals play.

No one knows... it's completely overgrown with a supersweet catwalk over 6-10. The old CEO of Six Flags was apparently a moron who had been losing hundreds of millions of dollars for the company and not telling the stockholders.

You don't absolutely need it, but it would help to know for sure there would be no rain/lightning delays.

It's certainly logistically possible, and I'd love to see it one day, but the leadership in New Orleans is just way too incompetent and corrupt to handle it.

What type of population influx is usually seen for the olympics?

I question whether or not it's logistically possible. New Orleans just isn't that big.

shite, that is a GREAT piece of land.

And the Astrodome has no plans either??

Do they still host rodeos etc there?

Long term is the plan to fix it up or bulldoze it?

Only if crack smoking and tourist killing were admitted as a sport

No, our roads couldn't handle it, but as far as hotels go...we could...we have 31,000 rooms now and we had 35,000 pre-Katrina....we have about 800 more in construction now, most notably the Waldorf Astoria.

Once again, I am not saying we could host it...just pointing out hotel rooms would not be a problem with us.

I am sure Atlanta does have crime or drugs either...oh wait...

Look it is not a question of whether we will or can host one...the answer is no (for the foreseeable future)...but this constant bashing as if NOLA is the only city with problems is just getting old.

I don't either and someone said the weather here is similar to Beijing
Beijing is showing highs in the high 80's, Houston is pushing 100, that's a 10-15 degree difference, that's big difference.

Chicago
or LA would be the US best bets. I think Toronto is in the mix for North America, which will probably get the 2016 games.

They were well into the 90s during the men's road race yesterday.
