Having a discussion. I said the Astros would go undefeated playing LSU's schedule this year plus post-season. My brother said no. He also said LSU would beat the Astros one game out of 50. I think the gap is too large between college/professional baseball. Thoughts?

Edit: I agreed one game out of 50 was definitely possible, for the record.

Your brother is correct.

It might would only be one game out of 50, but it would happen.

Astros would lose at least three midweek games and the Astro Rant would melt each time.

I don't think so. I think LSU would even beat the Astros at least 1 out every 25 games.

Oregon State has lost only 4 games this year. Yes,100%, a good MLB team would go undefeated.

That was my argument as well.

Not as much as you'd think.

College teams scrimmage vs. MLB teams yearly.

Now, college teams winning doesn't happen super often, but even a D2 squad has beaten a MLB team.

Here's a clip from that in 2015.

I honestly have no idea. The talent gap is vast, but baseball can be so random and uncertain over one game, that I'm not sure how big the talent gap would have to be for going undefeated to be likely.

frick no. College WS winning teams play 60+ games in a season and you expect a MLB team to win every single one of those games without slipping up once? That's virtually impossible.

To be fair, that is an MLB team that likely doesn't give two shits about the outcome of the game. I assume in this scenario the MLB team is busting its arse and playing its best players every night.

You get one really hot pitcher on a tough hitting night, a pitcher on the MLB team having an off night, a big college kid with a metal bat runs into a fastball and there you go

The talent gap is so large. Idk official statistics, but I'd be willing to bet 6 out of 9 starters on a college team won't make it to AA ball. Every starter on an MLB team is one of the best players in the world. I think they'd run through the schedule. Hitting/Pitching is so much more advanced.

The talent differential would be night and day. But even if you give the pros a 98% chance of winning each game, they only have a 36% of winning 50 straight. If you bump it to 99%, it is a 60% chance.

I'd lean towards the colleges getting at least one, but that may be stupid. I really don't know.

Pure talent is one thing but what gets lost in these conversations is how refined those skills have to be to stick at the major league level. That's why the major league team would have a better chance of running the schedule than what you would initially think.

I say yes ESPECIALLY with wooden bats and that article talking about the "Phillies" only one of the players who played it that game was expected to be on the roster. Im not saying every mlb would go undefeated but the best mlb team each year? Yeah they could
