Could a triple option team win in the sec?

Can a big 6 team (lsu, Uga, bama, tenn, uf) be successful running the triple option like 90s Nebraska or Georgia tech today? Tech's problem is their terrible defense and the fact try don't bring in top talent. A big 6 team can bring in talent.

I don't see why not with the right type of athletes

I agree but a lot of people argue an option would be shutdown by sec speed.

If run correctly that '07 Arkansas team would've been a blast to watch
QB: Casey Dick (
)
Wings: Darren McFadden + Felix Jones
FB: Peyton Hillis

Well, Saban went nuts this week talking about how Georgia Southern ran for 300 yds on them once. So, it's not impossible.

Is there enough top talent still running a true option offense at the high school though? I honestly don't know.

what happens when someone stops it?

Florida won the with the triple option with Tebow and Auburn won it two years ago with Marshal. It is just different options but still same philosophy.
If you are going to run it out of the Flex like Tech did, you can win but you have to incorporate the Run n Shoot into it some.
You can run the Wing-T also, its about spacing and counts.
The I possibly but you get 8 or 9 walked up and it is hard to block that many with 6.

See here's the thing. In today's era of football, a big 6 school running that offense simply wouldn't bring in the talent they do now.
95 nebraska was different because it was a different era so that offense wasn't nearly as outdated as it is now, I mean that was 20 years ago. Tech doesn't have an issue running it because they are a lesser school and need to do something to "even the field" so to speak because they aren't going to get the athletes other big schools will.
A bama, lsu, uga, etc running it would create problems. No QB would come to the school unless it was a nick marshall type person who ran it in HS and doesnt' care about playing QB in the NFL. You won't get any stud WRs because you get thrown to twice per game (and before you metnion it, demarious thomas was already at tech before PJ). RBs would certainly come, so that's a plus. Stud OL probably wouldnt' come because all they'd do is run block/cut block 95% of the season which won't prepare them for hte next level.
IMO, a big 6 school running it might be successful for a year or 2 when it was still new. But like we see with tech, eventually teams are going to figure that crap out and it's going to falter.

I think the SEC speed has been debunked at this point.

UF and AU's offenses aren't even remotely close to the triple option tech runs.

The triple option can be run out of any formation. Auburn and Florida ran the Single Wing. It is a formation shift not a offense or philosophy shift.
You block it the same for most part. Florida and Auburn do it out of Different formations.
Florida and Auburn read the dive, pull and they can keep or throw/pitch/shovel. That is a triple option.

the op specificually metinoned nebraska and gt...the uf/au offenses aren't nearly the same as those.

Nebraska's offense is the I it was different than GT. Auburn and Florida run the I techniques also.
So yes because it has been done recently. Alabama LSU, UGA, all run/ran the I.

That's crazy talk according to Les Miles. 6 > 9

There are plenty of guys who would like to stay qb that would play qb. Guys like Russell Shepard, John diarse, Terrance Magee, skyler green, treon, Shockley, matt jones, Newton, tebow, driskel, dobbs, tee Martin, James Franklin, matt mauck, nick Marshall, etc all would have been good qbs at the option.

If it is blocked right you can do it, but it is very hard. You have to limit your plays and practice very specific ones. You can change formations, but it is still hard to do.

You could ask that question about any team. What happens when spurrier' run and gun is stopped? What happens when bama's run game is stuffed? What happens when urban Meyers read option game is stopped?
