After today's 45-14 loss at the hands of Bowling Green they have officially finished their season winless. 0-12! Well done. This is easily one of the worst college football teams in recent memory. Let us run down their schedule so that we may memorialize them for the purposes of posterity.
vs. Temple (L) 10-42
vs. Bryant (L) 26-27
@ Iowa (L) 7-47
@ #20 Missouri (L) 6-42
vs. Western Michigan (L) 3-21
@ Kent State (L) 6-42
vs. Buffalo (L) 21-28
@ Central Michigan (L) 13-38
@ Akron (L) 10-44
vs. Northern Illinois (L) 3-45
@ Ohio (L) 14-42
vs. Bowling Green (L) 14-45
Their closest game of the season was a one-point loss to a 3-9 FCS squad in Bryant. They somehow managed to keep their game against 5-6 Buffalo close, only losing that one by a touchdown. Every other game they were beaten by 3+ scores. However you feel about the current state of your football program, ladies and gentlemen, at least you're not UMass.

This happened last year. If this is what UMass does to support its football team I am not surprised at a winless season.
Not this was the wife of the coach last year, who was fired for not winning enough. I guess they thought it could get any worse and it just did.
LINK
UMass parted ways with coach Dan Brown on Monday after two-plus seasons with the program in what was his second stint at the university. Brown, who had been the coach of the Minutemen since 2021, amassed a 6–28 record at the FBS Independent program, including a 2–8 record this season.
A couple days after his firing, Brown's wife, Deborah, took to social media to air some complaints about her husband's departure from the program. Specifically, Deborah raised the issue of the lack of NIL funding UMass receives.
"The combination of NIL money of the teams UMass played this season is a combined $48,798,653 million dollars to our $36,000. And we played how many teams so close?!" wrote Deborah on X.
The program, despite being at a massive disadvantage in terms of its ability to compete with bigger schools financially, has played some close games throughout their two-win season, including tough overtime losses to Miami (OH) and Liberty. Deborah made clear that she felt her husband wasn't given a fighting chance, and did better than most would with the resources at his disposal.

I wonder if they’re in contention for worst FBS team of all-time. I’m admittedly not knowledgeable of other historical contenders.

2024 Kent State was a doozy. They went 0-12, including a home loss to St. Francis. I'm not sure how many other teams were last in the nation in both scoring offense and scoring defense.

They're essentially a D1 JUCO program.

why bother making the move to the Mid American Conference if they werent going to support the program?

Not FBS, but I remember when ESPN would show Prairie View A&M's highlights. 80 straight losses.

He should be good for a couple of wins.

quote:They get the same TV and postseason revenue as all the other MAC schools (or at least will eventually, there may be a slight ramp up), and they aren't spending millions of pointless NIL money to go 4-8 or even 8-4 when no one cares. They'll spend their rev share on MBB and try to dominate the conference there.

Still aint go nothing on Prairie View A&M (they are FCS though). 80-game losing streak spanned nine seasons, from 1989 to 1998.
Prairie View A&M's 80-game losing streak ended on September 26, 1998, with a 14–12 victory over Langston University. This was the first win for the Panthers since October 28, 1989, and the streak remains one of the most significant in college football history
