Comparing Clark’s stats to the other 8 guards chosen for the Olympic team

The people who believed Caitlin Clark should have made the Olympic team made a point that she would help grow the game more and get more people invested in and watching women’s basketball.
That was countered by the opposing side that said, “well that may be true, but she’s not good enough to be on the team” and “Clark may have been overhyped” and “well she’s not one of the 12 best players currently”
So using that argument, if popularity/ability to grow the game/viewers/etc. cannot be factored into selection, we must assume it’s all based on play on the court, meaning that the 8 guards selected MUST be better than Clark. We can use stats and even some advanced stats, to see where Clark ranks among the 8 players chosen, yea?
If you average these rankings, she comes out to be about 3.5 out of 9. If it’s all about skill, why wouldn’t you want this player on the team while she’s outperforming most of the 8 that were selected?

Her true shooting and effective FG %’s are 1st and 2nd of the bunch and she hasn’t even come close to settling in and being her most efficient yet?

This is obvious. But we keep getting told that it’s not about that, it’s about skill and merit and what’s happening on the court. These stats absolutely show that it’s NOT about what’s going on on the court.
No way are they going to let her get MORE attention and be on the big stage.

Yup AND her team (outside of her) is bottom 3 in league. It's a travesty to leave CC22 off roster.

I don’t think I’d put her on the team this year.
Black players hating her is about 45% of the reason but her style of play is the rest. In time she’ll be leading these teams but right now she doesn’t have enough clout and she’s simply not ready to be THE main focus of an Olympic team.
Better to leave her off, imo.

She has more clout than half the team. All time leading scorer in college, biggest shoe contract, has already set rookie records for scoring. That’s clout. Name recognition of a Britany Griner who,has played in one game all year and scored 10pts is not clout,

Who said she has to be THE focus or even the main player of the team? Making the team doesn’t make her #1 and unquestioned leader of the team.

Ok. Get some experience now to be better prepared later on. She can clearly hang play-wise with the other guards that were selected and is doing better than most of them.

Grow the game
Increase viewers
Putting her on the team doesn’t make the team worse at all. There are no negatives to her being on the team if you’re talking about strictly basketball and growing the sport.

The only reason she was left off is she missed all the preliminary practices and stuff they had in the spring because of college season.
It’s the same reason Lattner made the 92 dream team. He’d been doing team USA stuff for 2 summers prior to the Olympics before they decided to include pros.
